Going to be in Portland week after next, and thought about trying to go out to the coast. Possibly newport area?
Anyone stayed at any good campgrounds out there recently?

Thanks in advance,
Very Happy

Check out Beverly Beach State Park just north of Newport. All the camping at the coast is state park unless you find a private campground. Beverly beach is nice though. Nehalem Bay State Park is close to Portland and is pretty good.

New Halem.

Right by the beach, so likely busy. Still quite nice though!

I would also recommend Beverly Beach.

Further south is the Dunes recreation area. parts of it are overrun with dune buggies but there are areas that are motor free and you can hike a short way to the beach. Just North of Florence I believe.

Cape Lookout would be my recommendation- it seems to usually be a bit less crowded than the other state park camps near Portland. A lot of the state park campgrounds around here just stick you 5 feet away from a huge, humming RV where your campfire is drowned out by the light of someones big flat screen! I have found a few spots where you can go up forest service roads and find secluded, undeveloped spots.

If you're gonna be in Newport, take a break from the camp cooking experience, and have a meal at ARR Place (www.arrplace.com). A phenomenal family run, local product restaurant. Tell 'em I said hello! Robert & Aimee are good friends...
