|
|
The inside of my pop is dirty and worn in a few spots and I would like to update it to a more interesting material. Anybody tried this? Can the flocking be re-flocked, can you get canned flocking to spray right over the old flocking or is it preferred to scrape the old flocking before the new flocking gets flocked on. Or maybe it would be best to say goodbye to the flocking (if thats what it even is)?
Any ideas would be great because I don't want to flock it up.
TIA, Tom |

Look in the best threads stickies.
It will direct you to the correct way to clean it and have it looking like new.
No need to flock with it. _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

I always find that grouping into a flock is much safer, from defense from a predator standpoint. Since the price of fuel is going up, top tier predators, such as semi's , have been preying on loner poptops in increasing numbers. Grouping our westy into a flock can confuse the simple minded semi into thinking we are actually a larger creature, or making choosing an individual difficult. _________________ Geology with a Syncro rocks!

I say "Flock Off!'......
.........& then re- flock(if that is possible).
Umm, I have wanted to "flock" a piece of plastic- is there such a product somewhere? Or no flocking way at all?
Anyway, have a great flocking day. _________________ Sent from a white van down the street. |

We used to sell small packages of Flocking material at our hobby shop. The plastic model guys used it to make the interiors of the cars more realistic. I think they sprayed glue on the parts and then sprinkled the flocking onto it and dusted the excess off. I am not sure how it is installed on a large piece like a poptop though. _________________ Markus |

God, I love the Samba.
What a great way to start the day. I'm a motorcyclist. We flock. They're called "Rallies". _________________ '85 Vanagon Westfalia |

I think I really do need to flock off unless the semis are coming then I'll flock up.
I am currently researching the possibility of flocking on a black light mural. My initial research into the luminescent properties while exposed to black light of the available flocking is not positive though. Might have to take some off my bedroom wall and just de-flock then laminate the posters to the poptop. They are very delicate though, I have had them since 1979.
That of course brings up the question of how to properly wire in a dedicated black light. Do they make LED black lights to minimize the current draw? Also I am gong to have to install a second battery to make sure I have plenty of reserve power for the light show, anybody ever done that?
TIA for all this flocking wisdom.

UV LED's can be had cheap. I used a bunch to make a portable florescence unit for the field. They do make UV light but at a fairly long wavelength. You may be disappointed at the result on our art. They can be had by the hundred on eBay, but run them for a while, several of mine died prematurely, and the brightness shift is actually quite dramatic, they dim with age. The plus side is they draw very little power. _________________ Geology with a Syncro rocks!

Use 12v cold cathode UV (black light) tubes. They will give you the biggest bang for your buck. they are cheap, durable, and already wired for 12 volt. They are normally sold to guys who make glow in the dark computer cases. More energy efficient than fluorescent and much more powerful than LED.

Just flocked to match new paint. Fixed cracks and got rid of poop flock. Will never go back. Love it. If you have done this post pics. The texture is the same as original. It's perfect. Let me know what you think.

Man, wish I had seen this thread last week! Just had the top off to install a new canvas and my top is half-flocked due to a PO cleaning mold, I guess. That new teal flocking looks nice!
