|
|
I've just had my 1977 Westy camper for a month and am trying to make it shift easier. I have removed the entire gearshift sytem (rebuildng the engine) and will replace all worn parts. My question is about the guide sleeve on the front shift rod(page 10, section 6 Bentley). My front shift rod has the Guide sleeve welded on the front end of the rod;not a separate piece as shown. (Actually, the ball socket is weided about 1 1/2 inch from the end of the rod) Do I have all the pieces or is there a sleeve that goes over the front end of the rod that I don't have? Thanks for your help.

There is a bracket under your bus (where the shifter goes through the floor) which has a guide bushing just forward of the point where the shifter ball joint is. This bushing has often deteriorated and may have fell out at some point. New ones are available from most bus part vendors. _________________ 1978 T2b ASI Riviera Plan I // Camper Special with MegaSquirt Injection & Ignition // 091 with 5.14 R/P and Peloquins LSD

Here is the CORRECT front bushing for the late bay:
http://www.busdepot.com/details.jsp?partnumber=211711182
Part number 211 711 182
A lot of places want to sell you this one, #6 here, as the front one but it is wrong wrong wrong. Part number 111 701 259 A does not fit:
(pay no attention to the red circle!!)
