I'm getting ready to do the paint and body on my '64. It's going to stay sea blue w/ white sides. I need some opinions on the hood, as you can see from the picts, there's a "pod" for gauges. I don't know who made it but its a 'glass hood from WAY back. Its very functional but I'm not sure if it looks right. Should I just use the stock hood (I still have it) and put the gauges around the speedo or stick with the gauge pod hood. Give me your thoughts.... Thanks

You should paint that hood blue and through some pin striping on the pod cluster in white.

IMHO, I'd shitcan that hood and put the stock one back on.

I don't know if I'd hack up the dash for the gauges, I'm kind of diggin' that cluster that you've got already...hope that helps! Either way, it's a nice VW and it's yours...good luck on your final decision.

Definitely stock and don't cut up the dash. Maybe mount a cluster under the dash?

i like the hood and if it were mine, i'd probably keep it. looks good to me and its different, but i go for performance over looks most of the time anyway. i'd just make sure that there were at least 150 horsies backing up the "look" of the hood. Cool

I'm generally a stock fan, but I think that hood is 'different', in a good way.

You've already lowered it and you said yourself you've still got the stock hood. I say paint 'em both and roll the one with the gauges. If you ever decide to sell it, there's no worry because you can always slap that stock hood right back on. Cool

I say keep it, be unique. It's definitely a different take than any other instrument cluster I've seen.

keep it. i like the OG look but tastefully unique is welcome as well. ive never seen that pod before on a bug, so keep it. its your bug, bro. its all about how you like it. besides, most of us prefer the look of 'our' bugs over anyone elses. so asking for our opinion is kind of useless anyways. your bug shouldnt look like mine, it should look like yours.

Keep the hood, paint it one color, and build a stroker with IDAs.
