PostPosted: Thu May 12, 2011 4:03 pm    Post subject: Computer question Reply with quote

I read the thread (sorry about Karl) and it has helped tremendously. The only question I have is it says
California Models:
071-906-021B All Transmissions 1980-1983 (071 plain and 071 E subbed to the 071B!)

I have a 1982 vanagon and a 071B that is outputting .55v (it should be 1v) to the 02 sensor so it's causing it to run badly (on 3 cylinders.) I temporarily fixed it by grounding the 02 sensor out but now I'm gross polluting and it's still running a little bad at speed.

My question is, what does this mean '071 plain and 071 E subbed to 071B!'

Would I be able to use a 071 plain or 071 E? I can find a 071 plain on eBay for $100 but I'm apprehensive to buy it since I don't know if it will work or not.

Any answers are greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!

EDIT :: Sorry, moving this to the vanagon section.

Hey All,

Does anybody know if there are any other ECU's that will work on a 1978 automatic baywindow?
The number on mine is 022 906 021 AH but I am finding it difficult to find a replacement...will any other model work?

Thanks

ebay has one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/234139534640

That is also listed for a 1979 Federal Bay. It might be easier to find under 0 280 000 180

1979 Bay / 1980 Vanagon Automatic. Federal

You can also check in with Ken Madsen at TheBusco, Averys Air Cooled in WA, or Chris in Oakland. He is always parting bays. He might have one.
