There is no specific number or letter in our vin that tells us if we own a carat or wolfsburg. It will tell us if we have a passenger van, combi or camper. But there is a way to find out for fighting ins companies that attempt to force you to settle for less when you have a covered loss.

The VW Customer Care Center 800.822.8987 ext 43412, ask for Darlene.

She could not verify thru the vin that my van was a wolfsburg so she started a search and went back to the original 1988 sale. Bingo. She is now sending me an authorized VW verification letter to present to the ins company.

Our local VW dealer is owned by some creatins and they have had the "Authorized" removed from their name.

VW cus ser lives on, they may not be perfect all the time but this time they-read she- did good.

Congrats and good detective work! I hope that results in a decent settlement.
