Thanks for the tip. This is great. I was looking at some of my old crusty parts with corrosion and paint over-spray thinking what on earth am I going to do with these?! _________________ 2019 Golf Alltrack, '65 Ghia Coupe Restoration in Progress |

....I don't think the backdrop for that photo is up to your standards for "Betty" but it looks like a fun show anyway....I don't know for sure what links the three cars, but I would imagine that the house of Karmann has something to do with it.... |

 Backdrop is the children's play garden. Could you be more specific about your suggestion John. ;) |
I think John is right about the Karmann connection but I have a question: Is the Porsche a '63 or a '61, '62.
The "Karmann" hardtop 356 was a '61 or '62, I thought. Perhaps carried through on the '63? _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

Yes it's a '63...the last 356c was 1965 I believe. Yes John is correct...the specifics are all three were built in the same factory, the Karmann factory, Osnabrück. _________________ John.

If only you could come and drag the beater/parts status 1996 Audi Cabriolet from my driveway, you could have yet another car built in that very same factory.
(... and I wouldn't have to park my DD a 0.5 mile 12 minute walk away because getting rid of that Audi would free up a spot in my driveway!) |

Why don't you just donate it to one of the veteran organizations or karsforkids.com You get a tax write off and an empty place for your daily.

Tore down the old 1915 and here are some interesting problems I found:
The oil pump had worn a groove in the cam gear(or vise versa)
The distributor rotor tang was non existent
The pistons were in the wrong orientation
The distributor shaft showing wear too.
It was also very difficult to turn over by hand. Turned out the main bearings were about to seize. Probably because the oil pump was so screwed up. |

Also got my Kafer bar installed. What a bitch that was. I had to modify the triangle brackets as the angles were off by about 4 degrees for the pivot arm bars to line up without stress. 6 mounting points in two days? Par for the course I suppose

^^^ Progress is progress, even when it's slow. Good work.
Thanks for reminding me to fit my Kafer brace BEFORE I put the body back on the pan.

Nothing special: Just refitted the original dealer-installed radio. (Yanase was the importer of VW in Yokohama.) I had to do a slight restoration of the plate.

There's a wife?
Based on the first 500 photos you've posted here, I was under the impression that your beautiful Karmann Ghia was the only love of your life.

Not sure you can do that because the bar goes through the holes in the body _________________ 1962 Karmann Ghia

I did the same. Found this radio from a 50’s Porsche in the classifieds, sold as a non working radio, I managed to get the knobs working again, replaced a broken tube, and it turns on now, the light is on and it hums, but no music....yet.... I think it might just need to be grounded properly... I think it looks great in this car. The original radio worked up until a few years ago when the on off switch permanently broke...

Very nice. I'm waiting for a "quiet exhaust" from Vintage Speed and only after fitting it will I be at the point where I can find a way to play your music in my car. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly
