In the years that I've been working this car, the decklid has never latched-shut. I fussed with it for a while years ago but realized that the release-cable tube was the failure point and just deprioritized it. The weight of the luggage rack was enough to keep it down anyway.
Some interior work prompted me to finally replace that latch-release cable, and in the adjust-test-adjust-test process of course I got it to latch but not release.
*INSTANTLY* kicking myself for not taking care of this while I had the engine out of the car a couple of months ago....
The 20 minute job became a 3-hour job as I had to remove the muffler and exhaust header so I could drill a hole under the latch and trip it open, get things adjusted and operating properly, and weld the hole closed again. |
Been there, done that. It was not my finest hour!

Put in an EV4U, delrin shift rod bushing. Makes a huge difference, although it took way longer than planned  |

1974 GHIA Finished the quarter window rubber install.. Put the lower trim pieces on. Ordered new latches. Headliner yesterday. Put the badge on the right fender.
Quarter window rubber is not fun. 2 of us and almost 3 hours for the first one.
The seal is way too big from the factory. Section that goes n the "B" piller get bigger around when forcing it in and stops the window from going in, Had to cut the flange of the "B" piller part.. It is in the way for the screws to the hinge. It is not needed anyway. Cut it all the way down so the bottom so outside trim will go in. Put the outside trim on before the window so you can get to the screws holes. Glass gets in the way. |

I've been without my Ghia since February 1 and only got her back last week. That's a story for my main thread - Saving Emiko. In the meantime, I've done a lot of work in the last week and will start with this as the first instalment:
I had to do a lot of cleaning where greasy hands worked in the engine bay, under the front trunk, on the back of the seats, and on the carpet next to the accelerator.
I started tidying up the wiring. The first thing I did was to relay all the earth wiring on top of the instruments and switches. Then I encased bundles of wires where I could. Here's before and after: (There's more to do.)
And I had to tie down the battery under the back seat.

| Pulled it out of storage spot in the hangar and in the open to work on it after a few years. Split engine case, cleaning and measuring everything. Engine ran fine but leaked oil and clutch was slipping a bit, that is why the disassembly. |

I took it on a 167-mile round trip to VW Drag Nite, and averaged 30.4 mpg with oil temps never topping 190* F in the July heat.

Nice roof rack to complement the Ghia lines.

Thank you, I appreciate the kind words. Though I wish it were its original bamboo/dark green, the green/white has grown on me. |

Installed bulllet mirrors without drilling any holes. After much searching I found these Astrali brand mirrors which have a 36 mm mounting hole spacing. I took a chance on shipping them from the UK but they made it in one piece as they were well bubble wrapped. Easy install and IMHO they look so much better and match the cars shape.
I think they are meant for a classic mini but don’t quote me on that one.
E-bay UK, less than $100 CDN including shipping, so I had to take a chance. |

The 67 Coupe has been feeling a bit neglected lately so I bought her a small gift to spruce up the engine room.
Ross Wulf Locking Dipstick to match the graphite grey scheme.
Totally unnecessary but I like it anyhow
