Well, me and Kirk were going to work on the '79 today, but apparently no local parts places had anything I need. My question is about some wiring things. I have several manuals and I'm looking where all these rat chewed wires need to be. Any help you can give is help full.

First off is all the wires from the coil.

Second is this one that has a fuse at the end. Second pic is where it comes from.

Last is this wire next to the distributor.

Last is some random big wire coming from the middle.

Coming from....

So basically I got lucky. Aside from the side marker light wires, these are the only four (not counting the plug wires) wires chewed through. So tell me this is easy, and where they go. Smile

If you need a correct answer now BWS, a search will yield the answer. I'm sort of in my cups, but I will toss out this potentially incorrect answer, Four wires equal two disconnected wires? It seems to my memory that the wire from the dizzy goes to the negative side of the coil? The other two wires hook up to each other.

I just took a look at my '77. The second pic's fused wire leads to the coil, 15 terminal. I think it has to do w/ backup lights. Do your's work?

Mine has 3 wires leading up the fuse, 2 exiting rear, one goes back to the loom, the other to the coil.

the other fused in mine runs the auxiliary fan, in your last pics. Not sure if that's the same in yours.

regardless, you need an engine seal. Don't leave home w/out it.

1. You need power from the ignition switch to the positive side of the coil. I think the original wire is black.

2. You need a wire running from the negative side of the coil to the distributor. This wire comes with the condenser when you buy it. This wire is usually green.

3. You need a wire telling the FI telling it how often to fire the injectors. This wire also hooks to the negative side of the coil. This wire is usually white.

4. The backup light circuit feeds of the positive side of the coil and through a black inline fuse. This wire is black.

The wire disappearing through the tin in front of the dizzy is for the oil pressure warning light. Don't remember its color right off.

In this picture, the white wire goes from the neg side over to the pass side of the bus. There should be a single wire cut off in the FI harness just about 8" from the ECU plug.

From the harness up by the heater fan, you should have 2 cut-off wires. One should be black. It is ignition on B+. It goes to the pos side of the coil. The other black wire on the pos side goes to the in-line fuse that is laying where a battery would go on the drivers side. That black wire feeds the fuse AND goes to the double relay to power it. The other end of the fuse goes to the reverse switch on the trans.
The other cut-off wire goes to the oil sender. In this pic:

I need more info on that last picture.....

Well worked on the wiring some yesterday, thanks for all the info. I found where the white wire went, and that bigger black wire from the fan. What I haven't figured out yet is that wire in the last picture Karl was asking about. Upon cleaning, it looks like it goes to a sensor of some sort. Oil temp perhaps? Still havent hooked it up yet. The fuse link on the drivers side has one wire coming into it, but another short wire coming right back out on the same side it goes into. Like there should have been two wires going in. I took some other pics, just need to upload them.

Replaced plugs, wires, reconnected vaccum lines, replaced all the fuel lines I found. Today (I work 8-6, so little time to tinker in the evening after dinner, playing with the kids and dogs) I'll hook up the other wires, and the new battery, and see what happens when I try to turn it over.

Red flag! Shocked

There's no engine compartment seal. This indicates certain PO neglect and potential abuse. Proceed with caution.

Check this link and if you click on it to enlarge it, you can print it out on 2 pages. It will help you ID the wiring. They are PITA to follow, much easier if you had the Bentley book as it is in color I believe.

Okay, found where all the wires go (I'm pretty sure) and when I hook the battery up, the battery light on the dash stays on, regardless of if the key is on or not. Turns over, wont start. Ideas?

It was the main one from the blower fan, which I hooked to the pos side of the coil.

Yes, oil pressure switch.

You need to get serious with the shop vac in there before you fire that bad boy up, I can imagine the crap flying everywhere. Looked through the spark plug access holes at the tops of the heads, cylinders and oil cooler for where those rodents were living yet?

I have, with no luck. I did however have a buddy point my Echo 24cc leaf blower in there while wearing a mask, and made a BIG OLE mess. He did manage to blow some crap out, but there is still more there.
