Why gettin' cocky is BAD!

Sorry to revive an old topic, but I have a question for you Loogy, how did the larger tires affect your acceleration and braking on that van?
I'm going to be going with an oversize AT tire here in the spring (not quite that tall, but close) and I have been mulling over the possibilities about what is best. I know tire shops get stinky as soon as they start seeing over 3% difference from oem. Those are at least 10%, I'm thinking more around 7 or 8 for myself

I'm running the CLK320 et37 with No spacers & 215/60/16 XL Falkens Ziex 612s and had to knock the wheel weights off on my 86 2wd westy . No tire rub but when I add lift springs I'm going to check them again. They are close though. Of course the tire size can dictate whether you can get an XL or higher load rated tire. The 215/60/16 is only slightly larger than stock (1")and revs at 813rpm where as a stock tire (185/75/14) would be roughly 832 revs per mile. Corners so hard on sweepers I have to hold on. It's awesome ! Thanks T3 for the hardware and killer machined wheel caps.
Obviously many off road oriented tires don't come so small so the challenges are greater with a stock drive train. You can find tire specs on tire rack.com

I did the same exact thing to my first nice set of tires on the same rim. Luckily, your spacers saved the next set of tires i bought. Thanks for bringing this up and reminding me to check the next set of tires and not to take things for granted. You rock Chris.

Will the 225/70/16 Fit the clam shell spare tire holder?

I am looking at the 215/70/16 But want the spare tire to fit in the shell.

I did read the 215/75/15 fits in the holder but what about the above?

If your van is 2wd, and if you just want a spare for the purpose of getting you down the road to fix your flat, then you can use your old 14" wheel/tire combo.
Just remember to always have the old lugs/bolts.

I mounted the same tire size & wheels to my former 2wd Westy but I used spacers in the front. No spacers in the rear, but I dunno how anyone could use that size with no spacers in the front.

So other than the control arm rub were there any other contact points during your drive?
Have you had to clearance any other bits of the body or anything in the fender well?

I only ask because I have the same size tire on a 16x7 ET35 wheel that I will be mounting on a non lifted tin top.
Mine is an 85.
I have upgraded the brakes and it just so happens that the rotor mounting thickness is right at 7mm.
This obviously acts as a 7mm wheel spacer.

Just curious if this is all going to fit without too much rubbing or trimming.

Edit: Damn... Yeah old thread bumps and I just saw that you apparently had no rubbing.
