I have just broken the westy only interior slider handle so far but it's only been on the road since mid May '08. Almost have 1000 miles since resurrection.
That part is not reproed yet as I understand _________________ 1979 Type-2 Westfalia “Sandy”

- The seal on the small vent window in the rear drivers side of mine is broken. I sealed it with some temp stuff until I can redo the whole thing.
- The rear seal on my hatch broke. Its been replaced.
- The sliding door seal is not leaking but im not sure how. It has more cracks than the polar ice sheet. It will be replaced soon.
- The fuel pump was broken when I got her. I replaced it with the wrong kind but will be changing that (which leads us to the next one
- My pass side carb broke and im pretty sure it was due to a surge in pressure from the fuel pump and the seal on the carb also failed.
- The inside sliding door handle broke. _________________ "...theres nowhere to go but everywhere." - Kerouac

I don't think I've ever bought a bus that had the stock windshield washer working. I've fixed them but they initially always seem to be broken. _________________

Stoner A is cylinders #2/4 B is #1/3 The plugged bowl is the throttle, the bong is the manifold |

Bays have a windshield washer???? I always thought that was something for washing your pants leg or something. |

Door pulls. The plastic ends crack and screws work loose.
Those annoying little springs in the door latch mechanism that allow you to close the locked door by pulling the trigger. Not a problem in themselves, but if you don't replace them you end up breaking the lock cylinder.
Clutch and throttle cables. |

Yea - I just had to replace those the other day!
My replacement window cranks keep breaking - I even tried the Vanagon versions. And my visor clips too.
My only broken items while driving - accel. cable, coil, valve, and of course steering pivot. (luckily I was only going 5mph. Too much fun in the Rocky Mountain back roads!) _________________ '71 Westy |

I had:
_Clutch cable.
Broke on a German highway ( repaired on the emergency lane with trucks full speed near my feet ).
_Parking brake cable.
Broke while lauching a boat in Northern Manitoba.
_Heating ducts, bellows flaps and their control cables under the bus, eaten by rust.
_CV joints ( just asking for grease repacking ).
_Breaker points ( just reminding me, it doesn't last forever ).
_Foam seal around the engine ( lack of it, is overheating engine in the summer, mostly when stuck in traffic jams ).
_Front brake calipers. Stuck solid with rust, from bus storage too long under a leaky roof. _________________ Stock 1974 US Westy, AW-A 1800cc dual carbs. Twin Falls is my favorite site on the Churchill river in Manitoba. |

The brake fluid resevoir. @#%*ing thing crumbled today as I was trying to bleed the brakes. Any idea where I can find ANY resevoir that will work? I will exchange with an original at a later date but for now, I would just like to take the bus and its new engine out for a test drive. ( I know, use the search feature. Been doing that for about an hour now and still reading)
thanks
Tim
