What a surprise to find three Nike logo panelvans at the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials in Eugene this week. According to the caretakers, they're all pre '61 panels, though two of them have the later tail lights and there was some modification to the cooling vents. Nike actually coated these buses in vinyl to create the logos and then made modifications to the cargo areas to display Nike products and show a history of the company. Sadly (for us Oregonians), the buses are being moved to California, where they'll be used in various Nike promotions at track meets and other events. I've posted a dozen pictures under the Panelvan Gallery. Enjoy!

No specific promotions that I know of....the caretaker just said that they'd be at track meets and "other appropriate places". I think they'd be foolish if they didn't also show them at OCTO and other bus-related events. Then again, they are trying to sell track shoes. I suggested that they hire Sean Penn to fall out of them as part of the promotions.

I'm thinking they must have figured it out by now. BTW, the bus was already lowered when they bought it....all they did was the graphics and interior modifications. They produced some really cool T-shirts celebrating the vans, but you had to join in a fun run at the Nike Store every morning to get one. I went down there today and grabbed mine; I can't run anymore, but they took pity on a guy wearing a Ben and Jerry's Bus T-shirt and a VW cap Very Happy

These were at Hood to Coast in Oregon this weekend. They are all double door buses. They are not all pre 61. One looks to be a 57, the second looks like a 62 (bullet fronts, late taillights) the third is a fried egg bus. I would really hate to see underneath the vinyl graphics. The belly pans on the fried egg bus were rotten and falling down. I'm sure they will serve their marketing purpose and hopefully then end up in good hands.
