I have a stock height 63 beetle with Flat Four Eneki rims. They are 5.5 in wide. Is it possible to run 205/60s all around? I know they will fit in the rear but how 'bout up front? I did a search but almost all you guys run smaller tires up front. Anybody running this way?? _________________ 63 T1 Ragtop Gulf Blue

why such wide tires up front? I have 195/50s up front and the added width makes em harder to turn and has really taken its toll on the wheel bearings, I wanna down size to 185s or 175s pretty soon _________________ MAIMAS... read it backwards

I didn't think of that. I wanted to fill up the wheel well, I like the look of fat tires all around. You got me thinking though. Thanks for the input. _________________ 63 T1 Ragtop Gulf Blue

yah and remeber, even if the tires up front are narrower you can still match the profile of the tire to make em look even in size, just the rear will have more contact with the ground. _________________ MAIMAS... read it backwards

That's good if you are dragging but I'd rather have a bigger contact patch up front when I'm cornering which means wider up front. I too have 195/50s up front and find them plenty good when cornering and no problem for my daily driver. I have 205/55s out back to keep the gearing as near to normal as possible.
I'd much rather change wheel bearings as opposed to the front end of my ride because i only had 8 sq. ins. of tire patch instead of 24 sq. ins. of tire patch going into that curve. _________________ 63SunNotch...."Don't qoute me on it but I am pretty good when it comes to tits.

This car is not going to be my DD, just a fair weather car in the warmer months. I want to get a set of BFG Radial T/As. I swear by their A/Ts for my trucks plus I like the look of them. I went on their site and I can get 205s for the rear and 195/60s up front. That's what I am leaning towards right now. Thanks again for the input!! Chris _________________ 63 T1 Ragtop Gulf Blue

on a stock height beetle ... 195/65r15 all round or maybe 205/65r15 rear
with anything shorter than that, especially on the front....well.... all I can say is 4x4 status with the fender/tire gap
but if you plan to go at most on the front some drop spindles.. then 185/60r15's would work good on the front _________________ Donate and help me get another aircooled dub to share with you guys www.paypal.me/WhosCare |

Well I ordered up my tires through tire rack. I punked out and got 205/60s for the rear and 155/80s for the front. The tires are both the same height but way skinny in the front. You guys got me thinking about wheel bearings and such so I went with a skinny tire up front. Not the look I really wanted but we'll see. Thanks for the input!! Had them mounted today, I think it looks ok, maybe it's second set I will go a little fatter up front.

"all I can say is 4x4 status"
1 click in the back and some drop spindles up front and I think it will sit pretty with those tires _________________ Donate and help me get another aircooled dub to share with you guys www.paypal.me/WhosCare |

That pic was taken just after I put the jack down. The rear settled down. I am happy with how the back looks just should have bought a wider tire for the front. Live and learn.. _________________ 63 T1 Ragtop Gulf Blue

Yeah I bought and mounted 195/50s all around before I thought about the gearing so now I have a set of 195/50s in storage to replace the fronts when I wear them out. The 205/55s on the rear does the trick. _________________ 63SunNotch...."Don't qoute me on it but I am pretty good when it comes to tits.

215/60r15's in the rear would been better for "gearing" and have a wide look
205/55r15's are still too short for "gearing"... sucks for you on the Hwy _________________ Donate and help me get another aircooled dub to share with you guys www.paypal.me/WhosCare |

Get some 205/70's in the back.. It'll fill up the fender opening better for you.. Just my opinion, but turn the white lettering to the inside... You've got 155's in the front--those are pretty fat compared to some tires guys are running here.. I'd probably like some wider tires later on, but i've got 135 Michelin XZX's in the front, and they are pretty decent, and i've had no problem driving.. Hell, at 70mph in downpour, no problems-my '02 Honda hydroplanes like crazy at those speeds, but the skinny tires just cuts right throgh the water on the roads--it's quite nice! I do however dig your choice of 'uncommon' 5-spoke Enkei rims.. Niiice. _________________ '62 VW Bug Sedan (Ruby Red)

Thanks for the reply's guys. I wanted those tire's specifically and they did not offer a 205/70. Just going by their website, the 215/60 was too wide for my rims. I have a Jeep and my buddy always cracks on me for putting the white letters out on that, I just like the way it looks. I'm sure he will have something to say when he see's the bug. _________________ 63 T1 Ragtop Gulf Blue

I hear ya. I wanted it to look like a grown up Matchbox car. That's why I wanted a fat tire up front and white letters out. Not the total look I wanted but it looks good enough for me. _________________ 63 T1 Ragtop Gulf Blue
