hi there!
thought i'd share details of my factory headlight washer system, as found on euro spec 77 westy berlin 2.0FI hydro heads (2.0FI hydro heads not too common on euro spec either) i've never heard of a factory electric pump operated windshield washer system plus headlight washers.
the fluid reservoir, replaces kick panel, rear view
front view
the headlight washer pump, operated when lights are on, and windshield washer is activated
the windshield washer pump, activates in normal way
all are marked with vw logos/part numbers (reservoir 211 955 449, headlight pump 211 955 679, windshield pump 823 955 651). unfortunately i'm missing the headlight washer jets.......
how common was this equipment? would it have required a specific M-code?
just thought i'd share. enjoy! |

I have to agree for the most part, sometimes he comes off as pretentious but it may just be a culture/age difference. I personally would like to meet him someday in person, that would be a riot.

It's pretty sad and funny that these guys post these little stupid non-vw comments about him and all he ever does is post legit info. It may be long drawn out stuff and it may be annoying but give it a freakin break.
It's always the same guys like a bunch of goons.
Anyways I like the washers. I would have never thunk it. I learn something everyday on this forum. Peace!!

Thanks for sharing bud! Now that there is a really cool item! I like that its part of the kick panel and all. So with the one reservoir you have both windshield washers as well as headlight washers? Cool

These are mainly fitted to Scandinavian busses & they have really tall over riders with built in washer jets as pictured below:-

Seriously! I would love to get one...actually, I would love to get a windshield sprayers that work let alone headlight sprayers! I am starting to accumulate the parts necessary to go electric with the windshield spray...those kick panel holding tanks look good...

Chris-do you have access to this bus? Any chance of closer pics of the over-riders and jets?
Also, i've tried deciphering my m-code but there are several unknowns......got the m-codes for the orange bus? |

So far, I have put quite a lot of information about front & rear, window wiper & washer upgrades, into the aforementioned subject thread, but I don't think I have yet posted much if anything there, about the electrically pumped windscreen & headlamp washers, which have been compulsory in Sweden since 1974.

It's another body modification I have long had planned for the future, if and when I managed to obtain the necessary parts!  Now that someone has posted at least some of the VW part numbers, I can contact some Swedish car dismantlers, with a view to obtaining the critical ones.

I too, was never impressed by the factory-stock, 1968~79 VW Type 2 windscreen washers, which was why I was so pleased with the Swedish SWW wash/wiper blades I retro-fitted in circa 1986 and which these days can be purchased by mail-order from the manufacturer, as I discussed in the following thread:

The wiper-arm-mounted, VDO/SWF, clip-on, four-nozzle, washer-jet units, are also likely to be much more effective than the factory-stock, 1968~79 VW Type 2 windscreen washers, which I also discussed.

Unfortunatly the owner has ditched them, but I may be able to help you with some detail. I know the bus came standard with an eiberspatcher heater underneath & the front panel is holed with grommets for the pipes to come through. The owner still has the bus & he's on here his addy is Benos
