The console came with my 1970 411LE, I have seen it in the Swedish VW-accessory catalogue a long time ago. Today I took a closer look for a numer or marking on it but nothing could be read so it its origin is still unknown.

Yes thats true Ray.
I just found the 74-75 VW-acessories catalogue and picture no 2 is box for Beetle and 1500/1600.
Box for 411/412 not pictured but told to be "different style".
Picture no3 is "radio box" for Passat.

Nice! Those are like 68-70 only I think.
I also like the late version of the vent window....the ground glass edge of teh front driver and passenger side door windows.
Many owners do not realize how innovative the late model ground edge windows were.
When you crack the driver or passenger side window just so the sliver of ground glass is open...it pulls air across the headliner area...across the back window...through the slots in the cardboard fascia and out the two sets of small louvers in the C pillar.
Its primarily designed to aid in defrosting and feed clean air into the car while the gasoline furnace is on without creating a draft on the passengers. It actually works quite well. Ray |

Ray, these were an optional extra and they were availble even for the very latest of the 412 models.

Thank you! I learn something new every day!
Another interesting note with reference to popouts....in the 2 door 411 and 412 (not sure about 4 door and wagon)....under the headliner just to the rear of the point of the rear quarter windows is the welded-in threaded hardpoint for the latch for the pop-out windows.
Like many other options available for these vehicles...the prpearations for options were built in.
As you probably already know...all of the threaded points and access holes are already in all chasssis to make them either manual or automatic transmission. Swapping is as simple as having the correct parts.
Also the wagons although they came with no rear anti-sway bar ...the threaded holes for installation are already there.

You are right, there are all the attaching points for the pop-outs in wagon too. There are mounting holes in the window frame for the seal supporting frame and three threaded holes in the C-post. The three threaded holes are covered with simple plastic plugs in the wagon. 4-door, ofcourse, didn't have pop-out option
Yeah, i've notcied that all the mounting points are allready there as i'm going to fit a rear sway bar to my 1972 Variant (wagon). I hope i can source a rear sway bar for my car, but sedan models were so rare here in Finland that these parts don't come often for sale.

The 1974 & 1975~79 VW Type 2s in Sweden were also equipped with high-pressure headlamp washers, but the water-spray nozzles were mounted in the top of rubber-covered bumper over-riders. I have most of the necessary parts for my British specification, 1973 VW Type 2 Westfalia motor-caravan, but there are still a few components I need!
I have a rare, almost unique accessory for my 1973 VW Type 2, which is a slightly modified GM/SWF cross-over-arm, double-linkage, pantograph rear-window wiper system, originating from a British specification, Vauxhall Astra Mk.1 station wagon, which is equivalent to a Swedish specification, Opel Kadett D caravan.
My measurements of a VW 411/412 station wagon rear hatch, suggested that this rear-window wiper system, would also potentially be suitable for this car.
Ideally, I wanted to use a Swedish-made SVD / SWW wash-wiper blade, but owing to the cross-over-arm, this would not be practical, unless one routed the water-supply hose along the full length of the wiper blade and then turned back on itself by 180 degrees to enter the far end of the wiper-blade's rubber filler.

The black plastic water tank, serving both the electrically-pumped windscreen-washers & electrically-pumped headlamp-washers, which is substituted in place of the front right-hand black kickboard in the 1974~79 VW Type 2 cab, is also reputedly of 8 litres water capacity. I have yet to check the capacity of my black plastic water tank.
Rather than retaining the factory-standard electrical circuit, which operates the headlamp-washers, if the windscreen-washers are used when the headlamps are switched on, I shall probably modify the circuit to operate the headlamp-washer pump from a separate switch, so that its operation is independent of the windscreen-washers.
Did you reconnect the headlamp-washer pump for the regular Swedish roadworthiness inspection!?!
In Great Britain, the annual MOT road worthiness inspection includes the condition and functionality of the windscreen wipers and/or washers, which if not up to scratch would result in a test failure.
If a car is stopped by police, who discover that windscreen wipers and/or washers are inoperative for any reason (including an empty windscreen-washer reservoir), this would constitute a criminal offence, not merely a motoring offence! I recall reading about one motorist who was stopped by police for another reason, during which they also discovered his empty windscreen-washer reservoir, for which he was subsequently fined.
I suspect that Swedish roadworthiness inspectors, police & law would probably take a similar view.
