In regards to the flasher relay, I found out that 68's used at least three different relays throughout production. I don't recall exactly which one I ended up using to get mine working, but during the process I learned about the variations.
The other big thing with 68's was the paint color/interior options. Most were available during the 68 model year only. My old 68 was Lotus white (splitty holdover color) with the Indian red interior.
They also carried titian red through from the splitty era. There is also a weird yellow/chartreuse color that is not listed on here, but has been seen as a factory color on 68's as well. And Neptune blue was available on commercial buses as well as standard microbuses. _________________ nothing |

Another possible 68 only part is the air cleaner. Here is a pic of an air cleaner off an original 68 bus. It is definitely different from later air cleaners that I have lying around.

Yep, mine has the 3 prong relay and I've seen 68's with 9 prongs as well.
Btw, nice split wheels on your 68. I just picked up a set myself. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

Ive never seen one of those. Mines a November 67 build and Ive seen as early as August 67 builds - always with sinks.
Was it the same unit as the split used? _________________ http://clemsblog.tumblr.com/ |

Late '68 Westy poptops supposedly got ribbed design... undoubtedly for greater cruising pleasure and satisfaction. _________________ Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

There is a very early 68 Westy in my area that has no sink. Not sure if the cabinet is the same as a split. It was built in August or September of '67, I don't recall the exact date. It has no export code, and it has fixed vent wings on the front doors. _________________ nothing |

That is some great info. Thanks for posting. You should consider contacting Everett to see if he wants to add that to the technical archives. _________________ nothing |

The bus is overseas now, but I recall that it had Lotus white on the m-code plate. _________________ nothing |

Anyone know at what point did they switch from the 68 one year only middle seat to the more common one? Was it truly a model year switch to the 69 model or did it happen sometime in the 68 production run.

Digging up an old thread... I found some literature that mentions the yellow color for 68's:
I've never seen an original paint 68 bus in this color but have seen a few 68 bugs. It's also not listed on any of the other brochures that have color samples. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

Wow. Not sure how I missed that other thread in the link. So, we have a name for that odd chartreuse color, Arizona Yellow. There was a sunroof 68 in the classified section for a while that was located in Kansas or Nebraska that was original paint and with a full black interior. Someone smarter than me may have saved the photos, or could possibly look up the old ad. _________________ nothing |
