This looks like one of those home made, owner suggestions. I have a couple of magazines from the 1960's which have similar tips/ gadgets ect to improve your VW driving experience.

I saw a different one without the clamps for the running board...I'll have to find it....smaller dog too....Maybe thats the Xlarge size...
