so does anybody know the difference between a 68 bay double back seat and a 65? or maybe some pictures? |
The split seat frame drops down about 8" from the ends, as does the seat frame, the Bay seat base goes straight across, no dip down.
|
crukab, that's a 64?-67 pedestal.
According to http://www.dropgates.com
Major Props to Dropgates for the following text. You can find pedestal photos on that site, along with a ton of truck specific info.
58 only
Curved pedestal, mounting tabs point inward.
59-60
Curved pedestal, mounting tabs point inward.
61-64(?)
Curved pedestal, mounting tabs point outward.
64?-67
Flat pedestal, mounting tabs point outward. Notice the 2 circle pressings and strength notches across the top ridge.
68 and later
Flat with no circle pressings |
Actually, it seems that 68s have the seat base that is labeled 64-67.
I have 2 68 DCs with original interior and they have the 64-67 style pedestals . _________________ -Bryan

The first seat bottom is a hump back seat for late 61-63. It may or may not work on a crewcab rear seat pedastol. I do not believe it will.
The second seat bottom is a 58 through most of 61. This seat will also fit a 1959-63 crewcab.
Everett's pic here shows how a 63 & older rear seat pedastol looks. The bottom drops down because VW used front seat bottoms & in the front you have wheel wells to account for.
[/quote]
Here is a bay seat pedastol. Note that the top is flat. This is how 64 & newer are. A front seat from an early Bus will not work. Conversly the correct 64-67 crewcab seat base will not work in the front of an early Bus because there will be no support in the middle & the seat will sag & eventually brake.
I believe that the backrest was the same for all crewcab rear seats from 59-67. _________________ Home of the one true split Bus Motorhome |

Just to note. I have a '59 SO-23 Westy seat while my '59 has a recovered in cheap ass TMI upholstery front seat. I went ahead and traded seats a couple days ago and it was no problem. On the DC rear seat I had to remove this square metal, hollow bar held on with two clamps of sorts, but other than that it fit like a glove in the Westy.

So what years are compatible with what years? Will a 59 Single cab front fit in a 1960 Double Cab rear and so forth? The rear seat is real pain-in-the-keister to get sorted out and find. |

I know that bay double cab seat bottoms work for front seat bottoms in a barndoor. Both are flat all the way across. _________________ nothing |

The 1960 has a dip in the pedestal so straight ones won't work. I'm interested in knowing what models have the dipped seat and which are interchangeable. |

I was not responding to your question, just stating a fact I know of. In the post with lots of pictures at the top of the page it appears to show that buses through 63 used the curved bottom on the front of the front seat bottom. 64 and later used the flat style. Hope that helps. _________________ nothing |

true, but 61 front seat bottoms have a forward edge that is angled forward. the top of the seat overhangs the bottom slightly. Like you said it will fit, but look odd. _________________ drive your split. |

To be more exact, up to very early 1961. All non-hump seats.
The 1958-61 (non-hump again) front seat back rest is the same as the rear back rest. _________________ How to Post Photos

Any chance of getting some dimensions of that bar? Maybe I can get one made if I can't locate one. |
