Wow, this is digging up an old thread. I am glad Davids photos helped you through some hard times.
I don't check in with Marco & Anna as often as I'd like - they live 8 hours away from here and we have not been able to travel much recently.
Anna remarried a super nice guy and seems very happy. Last I checked Marco was taking a break from the University of Oregon but was planning to go back soon.
They are an awesome family, I wish we lived closer so we could see them more often. |
Thanks for the update. It's good to hear Anna has remarried and Marco is doing well...everyone deserves happiness in their lives. _________________ John.

Well nearly 9 years since David's death and I guess we have all moved on...
I was building a DC back then and marvelled at the patience and time David seemed to have........
Things were a little tough back then and I actually used David's wheat field pictures as inspiration just to keep on pushing
Is there something I could do today to help Marco and his mum to perhaps say thankyou ? Thanks for inspiring me
Cheers John |

Increadable and sad news even 2 years on (I only just found this post through a random search).
DM's projects and web content were a great source of information and inspiration for my own project.
His contributions will be missed.

The DC is pretty much as it was.
Greg & I stopped by to see Anna and Marco a few days ago, and I did find the chromed rear EMPI anti-sway bar and put it under the bus. The center part (chromed) had already been installed.
Marco has his driving permit now, and has been driving the tipper truck to the dump with garden debris. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

I vote for a "group restoration" of his double cab. How can I help? |
I think we need to give his family some breathing room for quite a while. When we spoke to Anna this morning she said she wasn't going to make any decisions regarding his collection for quite some time. Lind & I spoke this morning regarding the doublecab and we'll probably work together to make certain it gets finished. I'm not certain what Marco's interest level is, but it would be nice to have him help out with the doublecab if he wants. |

I've talked to dave about his dc in Bad-Camberg and in the US and he was stoked about it.
I was wondering what happened to it?
I hope someone finishes this bus with the same vision he had for it. _________________ www.volksfahrer.nl

Thanks to all that sent their sigs to be included on the Holiday cards. Here are some pics of the cards being sent to Erichs family, and the card/illustration being sent to Daves.
Happy Holidays..

That makes two of us. I never met him, but I'll definitely miss his knowledge and wit.

I can't believe I'm just now hearing about this.
Dave was an awesome guy. I have hung out with him several times at Pacific Northwest meets.
He and I both had early ghia verts of the same vintage and he was a real pefectionist about using original parts and staying away from repros, even if they were exceptionally well done.
He talked a lot about his blue double cab and how eventually it would get done. If anyone wants to put a group effort together to finish that, please sign me up.
You will be missed Dave.

The website was pulled down intentionally. I spoke with Anna last week about it, and she was happy for me to have it hosted elsewhere. |
