Anyone using the small gas strut on their oval hoods? I was planning on using the later hinges and replacing the springs with the struts however the later hinges interfere with the front quarters when closed. I'm assuming this is due to width differences between the oval cowls and the later cars. I was thinking about modding the original hinges with a reccess/pivot to accomadate struts.
Anyone have another trick on making these work?

I did that modification on my "57.
Used the later hinges and gas struts.
I just had to weld a tab on for the lower strut mount.
I had no front quarter clearance problem.

If possible, you should install your gas spring with the rod down. That keeps the seal from drying out and leaking the gas.

What type of gas struts (vehicle make/model/year) are being used for this conversion?

I don't have a clue, RareAir, and I don't remember who I bought them from, but they look identical to these.
