I'm not 100% sure on the originality of mine, I've only had it for about 1 month. However, I have it pulled apart right now while I'm putting new foam and upholstery and I could snap some pics of the brackets.
Now mine is full width, no closet on the side. _________________ '73 Riviera | 1700cc | Dual Dellorto 34b FRD | 009 |

I'd love to see a picture of this, as I am still having problems figuring mine out. |
Are there hinges in the back of yours that hook to the wheelwells? I believe if you pull it toward you and the bottom up at an angle it unfolds. Mine doesn't look like that. It has a wooden frame with the only metal being the hinges. I have the full width Rivi bed and the smaller Westy bed. I've never opened either so I have no idea how they actually work for sure. Just giving some ideas. _________________ Check out my Westy resto. thread.

As promised...
So, how stock does my interior look? I can tell that the counter/table tops have been recovered. They must have removed the faucet because there is a hole under the laminate where it used to be.

those pics are great guys, I have the same setup but have 4 hinges bc mine is a half/half. I can have one side a bed and the other a seat.
hey Emily's Owner when you said wood blocks, did you mean under the hinges bolted to the floor or like Dogman's on the back fire panel |

Yup, I'll take pic's as soon as I recharge the batteries on the camera (I walked out this morning to take pic's and it died). _________________ Xargaret

My riviera bed was attached to the floor with some pretty small screws. Also, being mounted directly to the corrugated floor made the bottom pieces of the brackets tweak out a bit. I drilled the holes out to accommodate 8mm (roughly 3/8ths inch equivalent) bolts and cut 3 1/ inch pieces of 2" x1/8th inch aluminum for underneath the bottom brackets to hold them straight with the plane of the floor. |

A member asked me to take some measurements, so I thought I would post here.

A Rivi bed doesn't work like a Westy bed. The full width bed I gave you is a Westy bed, not a Rivi. The bottom portion of a Rivi bed doesn't pull up like you can with a Westy. The front wooden cover panel folds down to get access to the area under the bed as opposed to a Westy where the seat bottom lifts up. Imagine my surprise the first time I tried to fold out the bed in the Rivi and I grabbed the bench to pull it up and it went nowhere.....took me a minute but all you do is pull the bottom of the bed towards you and the bed folds right out. |

Is there supposed to be some kind of latch or something to secure the backrest when a Rivi bed is in the stowed/bench position? I ask because mine wiggles pretty significantly if you grab the top of the backrest and jerk if front-to-back, it probably plays a good 8 inches or so. The bottom (seat) portion is nice and solid, and the bottom part of the backrest is too, but the top jiggles around.
Seems like there would be a latch or something for it to rest on - like a striker-and-plate or hasp of some kind. Am I missing those?
I found these pics in the gallery - it's hard to make out, but is that what I'm seeing just in front of the spare wheel here?
... and just above the red cord on this one?
And if so - and I'm guessing that is what those are - how does the seat connect to that? Does it CLICK or latch on somehow? Or does it just rest on them? |

Ya know... after going out and looking at my bus/bed. Those little tiny brackets (pictured above) can't be it. They don't even extend past the armrests, so they backrest couldn't sit against them.
And it doesn't really slop 8 inches. More like 3 or 4. Still, I'd like to lock it down, if that's how it's supposed to be. Doesn't even really bother me that much, but I mostly wonder if it's a safety concern if there was a collision. Maybe not. |

I had a normal width bed in a Riviera, and the wood that the back rest lay on when it was in the seat position was angled. Sort of like this but extruded across the bus from one side to the other, sheet metal screwed in place. The thicker top held the seat back forward, taking out the slop that a straight/rectangular profile piece of wood would cause. Mine was a 72 Riv.

Thanks for that tip. I'm potentially going to be fitting one of these soon, or a rock n' roll ala vanwurks or cip1, but, I have the riveria bed already in decent condition so figure start here first. _________________ 1979 Sunroof Bus
