I`m wondering if a Judson Supercharger was an available option for the 56 model year?
if so, does it value the car any differently than a naturally asperated intake?
Thanks

It was never a factory option, only an aftermarket option.

Ahhhh, I see,
Thanks.
is it considered a plus in any respect or is it one of those things that are nice to have IF you are looking to have one or does it make no difference in its value?

Judson is a vintage performance piece and one in working condition is bound to increase the resale value of the car it is installed in.

But it was never an accessory available from VW themselves. Judson was a US-based company in Pennsylvania

Thank you very much gentlemen,
One more question.
As I`m unfamiliar with one as I have never seen one up close, how is one to tell if it is operational?

Ideally should be relatively silent in operation with just a faint supercharger whistle.

Unfortunately most are worn to differing degrees and make an increasing rattle as wear increases.

Parts however are readily available to rebuild.

On a historical note, from their inception in 1956 until the early '60s Judsons were often available from official VW dealerships...until VWOA found out and threatened any dealership offering them, with termination of their franchise.

Thanks very much........very informative.
Would you take a moment to look at these two photos and give an opinion as to whether or not the bits and peices appear to be correct or incorrect as best you can?
Thanks.

Yes from what I can see, it looks complete. All you need to ask Wayne is if it has the stronger fuel pump spring and the correct air correction jet for the carb (both available cheaply).

Wayne has had his Judson fitted for a number of years...should have it dialed in properly by now. Smile

The judson was purchased as a kit from George Folchi in Conn. The kit included both the carb jet and the fuel pump spring. He got his the same time as I got mine from George.

John - I think you can attest to the work that George does with his kits.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.
Like mentioned, the owner is away til mid week and unfortunatly i`m too far away just to pop in to veiw the car.
I wished I was closer, I would go tonight.
Anyways, we'll see when he gets back and hopefully the car is in good shape as it appears to be from the photos.
Thanks again.

Once you subtract the cost of the Judson, the price was great for a solid, original, oval in the north east. The car will be coming into Canada next Monday. I have an original 4 tip muffler in my stash which will be installed on Tuesday. Wink Stay tuned.

Yes. I bought it about 3 minutes after the seller emailed and announced his arrival home. He posted 130 pictures and sent a link to everyone who emailed about the car. The timing works out perfect to export/import the car Monday since it's a civic holiday for us up here.

I'll definately bring it with me to our show in August. ( www.bugfest.ca ) I'm bringing a few cars. It's amazing how many people have stepped up and offered to drive it for me Very Happy
