What is the torque spec for the large 27mm transmission horn bolts? I couldn't find it in the Bentley anywhere near the RGB pattern?? Thanks!

In general, should used bolts be torqued more or less than spec?

Years ago, I recall a seasoned professional mechanic explaining it should go one way or the other... but don't recall the details. Something about the yield ... and how a used bolt has already given up some of it oomph. I'm thinking it should be less by 5-10%?... than if all male/female threads are virgin.

Bolts get torqued to specs, not by age.

Age has little to do with it. One could expect a 50 year old NOS bolt is 99.9% as good as a freshly made bolt. Maybe better.

What I'm inquiring about is how to accommodate for the effects of stretch, yield & cyclic fatigue.
Simply, threads aren't 'per spec' forever... nor are the steel properties right under the head.

Even if that is true, you have no way of knowing the history of the bolts in question, so you will never have a real answer. Just tighen them to spec and find something else to stress about

If that doesnt help, go buy some new ones, if you can find them. If you need extra insurance, use loctite

Bolts are available... just wondering if anyone knew of a rule of thumb.
New bolts only address the male half... there's still the frame horns with threads.

Loc-tite isn't the answer to everything.

Pages 62/63 provide a little insight...
