Too funny. This ain't new. We used to do this in the late 70's. We called 'em 'tennis ball cannons'. Back when soda cans were tin, you could alternate soda cans and soup cans (they would 'snap' together, cutting the tops and bottoms out) tape them with electrical tape first, then duct tape, leave the bottom on the bottom most can, put a hole in the side in the bottom end, squirt some lighter fluid in there and twirl it around for like 20 seconds, stuff a tennis ball in the end and light with a lighter through the hole. Ball went further than you could see. We ended up having two per team and went to the school to have 'warfare'. We had two guns and two guys with trash can lids to 'recover' the balls per team. About a football field apart. Loads of fun. One day the cops came and shit a brick. Didn't do anything, but destroyed our 'guns' on the spot. Today you would be a terrorist. Woody, your updated version is nice.
One day the other team ran out of lighter fluid and started using gasoline. We aimed for thier 'fuel depot' and hit it finally, starting a small fire. Victory!! |
3 pop cans and some matches (couldn't afford a lighter). We used hairspray. And you'd always got the dumbest kid in the bunch to light it because the flame back would burn his hand..... I still have the scars. |
What are you saying? I remember that. The burnt hand. _________________ CH³NO²

Just got back from a weekend of spuddin. 45 lbs of russets and not a single misfire. Range 400 yds. We also used a large metal mailbox for closer range firing and completely destroyed it.
About half the ones that we shot straight up completely disappeared from sight. We never saw them come down. Good times. |
