The other piece of metal is for sure the rear rain gutter/ hatch attachment piece.

Also, the piece on bottom could be a front roof bow for sunroof due to the slot in it for the chrome sunroof latch????

62 Kombi with 2 m-codes

One of which could be sunroof???

Sunroof is a model code Smile

I wish we could zoom in and read the M-code plate though

That would be nice. We need the fancy facial recognition software they use on NCIS or one of those other tv shows.

Enhance! Enhance! Enhance!

I wonder if the 36 (I think) under the model # is an M-code

M36:
Warning light - parking lights/city lights, side flasher indicators, modified handbrake lever

The front engine looks like possibly M45, and if it is it’s showing as ‘unknown’ in the m-code list

Another interesting note, I had to look at my Kombi, 3 position seat mounts, also a 2 M code Bus. Mine does not have the spare tire clamp bolt holder metal. So somewhere after Jan. '61, they added that.

I don't see M12

Left side engine looks like M155 and M178

Right side engine looks like M155 M45

Are there others?

M155 - Air cleaner with additional cyclone filter
M178 - RPM limiter - 1200cc engine
M45 - Unknown

Nice of them to put handles on there.
Do a factory tour, grab an engine on your way out

RE: The jig/fixture/lifting tool-

Does anyone have any detailed pictures on how this attaches to the engine? I made one that connects to the tab near the flywheel and the crank pulley that works well. I'm just curious how the factory did it.

Go back to page 6, the discussion on those begins there.

I asked a long time ago if anyone had ever used the case hole to lift an engine.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

It appears those lifting harnesses attach to that hole. Or not? Click on aerosilver's post photo then click again to enlarge then look at the lone engine behind the purse-woman's butt.

Ditto. I made a similar sling that attaches to that tab and a hole in the crank pulley. Works great, I use an overhead winch on an I beam.

What a cool picture!

Look at all those mangos, looks like at least two are double door.

I see a primer Kombi too.

Interesting, I see only one bus with US spec bumpers. And that light grey kombi and double cab are delicious...
