Vw busses can be fun to work on, but now I've encountered a somewhat annoying issue
This time the '66 bus gives me a headache.
I have removed the 50+ year old original e brake cable,
The e brake cable "guide sleeve/pipe", so the piece that protects the e brake cable and sits between the drum and the long metal tube tube that runs under the bus, broke into pieces.
Now the metal end that slides into the long metal tube underneath the chassis has rusted stuck... I can't get it off. And it is in a tight space.
Did any of you guys/girls had this happen as well?
How can i remove that metal piece from the tube without having to cut the long tube and reweld it?
....i've soaked it in oil, have tried prying it off, putting pliers on it and wiggle, banging it with a screwdriver, heating it with a blowtorch but it just won't move at all😣
Any ideas are welcome please, thanks in advance!
Here's the part that has gotten stuck at the end of the long metal tube on the passenger side (the one in the below picture is from the drivers side; that one did come off after some pulling):

I’ve had good luck with PB Blaster, then a pointed punch on an air hammer. You can catch the shoulder of that cable end in a couple spots to work it out. _________________ Tim |

The impact action of the air hammer is what you need. Use anti-seize when installing the new cable. _________________ Tim |

I used a steel coat hanger connected to my 18V drill with PB and some high pressure air and with an hour or so of going to the front on the tube then going to the back of the tube did this about 20 times then ran the broken cable out the rear. Good Luck I hope this helps. _________________ 1951 Split Standard Hoffman Build

i ended up drilling holes in the guide tube at the end, and then the bit that was stuck came out unwillingly.... what a struggle that was _________________ drive it like you just robbed the bank
