My wife and I bought our van in Florida in 1998. It stayed stock for ten years.

This is SE Oregon. July 2020. It was hot. And spectacular.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

In winter '99 we spent several months driving around the country, deciding where to move to. We ended up in Portland OR, and enjoyed our Westy for a bunch of years out here.

In 2008, we sold it (needing a new head and a transaxle rebuild) for a great price, to a friend, who absolutely pimped it out. Subaru power, solar array, bumper package, suspension upgrade, TF49 fridge (ice cream in the desert is a thing!) etc etc etc.

Here, I would really need the 4x4 and rear locker, had it rained recently... but it's SE Oregon. In July. I think we're safe.

Two months ago, we bought this camper back from him (also at a great price!) So we are the second AND the fourth owners of this van. Originally be-monikered Stanley; now Diego.

Enjoy these shots of our Vanagain.

That’s a great story deaddrift. Thanks for sharing. We’ve been to that playa and it has to be one of my favorite places in SE Oregon.

Moab, Utah, now.
Camped on a 600 ft cliff above the Green River.
20 miles from pavement.
Haven’t moved the van in 2 nights, probably one more night here.

Yes, painstaking DIY creations. Dad used a nylon SUV car cover; I used nylon shade panels.

Kamz, the prominent mountain is technically Little Bear Peak, a separate 14er connected to Blanca by a 1.5-mile ridge.

Technically, there are multiple 14-ers in that Sangre de Cristo Range Wilderness area. I used Blanca simply because it's the one on the entrance sign and most known.
