maybe he just wants to make sure that you actually have it. take a picture of it and blurr out the important info stuff that he could possibly use for a scam.

I've wanted a picture before just to verify the owner had the paperwork. Just to make me feel better.

so has anybody else ever done this without problems? Anybody know somebody that got scammed this way?

I can understand why. A friend went to pick up a bus he had agreeded to purchase, he's from Texas, the bus was in Cali. When he arrived to pick up the bus the seller did not have the title in his posession. He told my friend to pay and take the bus and he would get the title to him Rolling Eyes
Needless to say, he passed on the purchase and wasted a lot of time due to the seller NOT having the title.

My guess is he wants to make sure you own the car and the title is not salvaged and clear before sending funds.

Sounds ok to me.

If you think it's an issue, you could blank out your street address first.

He can't print it out and title your car.

well dude was not very honest from the start. said he was a local buyer with cash in hand ready to come get the car now. Told me he was in the next city over.

So I call him he tells me he is 7 hours away but, his parents live there and if I send him a picture of the pink he will come down to visit his parents and buy the car.

He said he thought I was a scammer. because there was no way I could have a 57 oval with 60k original miles and thats why he wanted to see the pink.

whole thing was just shady.

i think youre making a mountain out of a molehill !!

there are more bullshit sellers than scamming buyers !!!

theres a way around this , as mentioned earlier .

its not like hes asking your bank account details or anything .

What rock have you been under? There's loads of scamming buyers out there. The buyer misrepresented himself and the seller is at no loss by refusing to deal with him. Someone reasonable will come along and buy a nice Oval and be happy with it.

If you are getting a bad feeling or if he is lying, I would move on the next buyer.

do you allways start your replies so elegantly ?? Rolling Eyes

so whats the scam then ???
what could anybody gain by looking at a pink slip ??
i dont see that it has any MORE info on it than you would allready get to know by asking questions about a vehicle for sale , viewing it , then not buying !!!

In the State of West Virginia, the title contains enough information on it that you could apply for a duplicate title, wait for it to be reprinted on the spot, then turn right around and sell it to yourself or another person.

By the time the true owner figures out what has happened, the scammer could be long gone and untraceable.

Sounds a little far fetched? Well there is a lot of buyers that are just gulliable enough to fall for a scam to buy a car for a fairly cheap price to get "the deal" before someone else gets it that they will drop their guard enough to be taken.

If the car is vintage, I too would want to see the title, but I would want to see it in person when ready to buy the car. I may waste a long trip, but I ask up front if the title is in hand, in the sellars name. Got taken on a TN beetle 2 years ago and it is still hurting (got it squared away properly and legally, but toke time and additional money), but I learned a good lesson.

I might just keep it. I like to modify my cars. I almost feel bad for wanting to change anything. this car is a very cool unrestored car. just kinda thought someone might want it before I cut it up and slam it.

i see what , youre saying , this happens in england .... but all you gain by doing that is a "copy" pink slip ??
usefull for stealing identity to go on a stolen car . but little else .
this wouldnt even concern the seller , as he still has the car AND death certificate !! Very Happy

and didnt the seller say something about needing driving licence to get a copy ??

i know each state is different , but i really , really wanna know what the scam is !!!
