Sad to see a Canadian Tristar has recently come to it's end. This particular Tristar was an odd one, it is the only known Canadian 2wd Tristar. I was in contact with the owner before the fire. He was attempting to sell it. ($20K)

So, out of the 17, how many are left? I personally know of 5.

Lets all go check our fuel lines today!

One would think it could be saved no?

(assuming his insurance would cover the costs! Smile )

where was it registered? in BC? if it is a write-off it will be auctioned off by ICBC, the government auto insurance company, unless he had his comprehensive with another company, which is unusual . . .

looks like the yard in New Westminster . . .

I don't see how this tristar is a total loss. A wiring harness and a complete motor from any 2wd vanagon along with some body work. Isn't this car worth saving to the owner? If it does go to parts heaven I want the rear sliders.

That will buff out.

Of any of the vans to burn, that one is one of the ones that you could save with not too many parts. A Westy is usually junk, but there ain't that much back there in a pickup.

It is a fixer.

Wait a minute - is this car in a auction lot? If it is in a lot then it has already been totalled by the ins. company and will be resold to a wrecking lot most likely. Too bad that a $20k tristar can be brought down by $60 in parts. http://www.volkscafe.com/vanagon_parts.jsp?pa=p&p=2123780261&pct=805778740&ct=709976264

Erik,

You mean that you didn't buy the parts for the fourth door for the '92 Doka? Laughing

Update on the burned Tristar...

The body was sold and is now in the hands of somebody who is going to put it back on the road.

I'm still trying to get the VIN number so we can find out what exactly this one is.

That's good news! I hate to see rare T3s sent to the scrapper. Did you ever find out the whole story on what happened to that Tristar, Eric? Is it indeed the same one you posted the photos of on here about a year ago?
