I'm looking for the size of the bolts and nuts that connect the spring plate to the axle tube on 68 bug. I'm doing a straight axle conversion so I don't have that bug hardware.

My guess is 10mm x 1.5. Do I advance to the lightning round?

Anything but the dreaded home game! Thanks 61SNRF.

Are the four bolts ands washers the same for all years of bus rear apron?

Also when people refer to "the book" in regard to original hardware sizes, what book is that? I have a bentley and it doesn't seem to have many hardware specifications.

Now THAT is a great resource. Exactly what I need for a 1960 panel, or even a generic "pre-67 type 2" …

Has anyone distilled the OACDP scans so they're searchable?

I am very lazy, so hoping someone's already done the work Wink

I need to buy some hardware for my Super. The entire rear suspension, shocks, spring plates, etc. Also need all the hardware for the front suspension. I have several of the sizes I've found on other sites. What I'm having a hard time with is that some have smaller heads then normal, so that they can fit in tight spaces. Where do you guys source the suspension parts?

Dorman makes a lot of high strength bolts with Allen heads. I've bought & ordered them through my local Eugene Fastener & Supply.

I found my answer on facebook... Vintage Volkswagen Club of America

According to Jeff Spencer:

Bumper Bolt Hardware:

If it's the 10mm bolts that mount/secure the brackets to the frame rails, then they're 10X1.5mm Most of the carriage bolts used on them though are 8X1.25mm. For instance, bolts L & H would most likely be 10X1.5mm, and bolt G would most likely be 8X1.25mm. In most instances the automotive DIN standard for 10mm bolts is a 10X1.5 threat pitch, w/the exceptions being the seatbelt securing bolts, and anything from Indonesia being 10X1.25mm. Even though the national DIN standard for 10mm bolts is 1.75mm. Hope this helps, but I'm sure that it will. Have a great day folks
Automotive DIN standard for 12mm bolts is also 1.5 thread pitch. I know, I stock the stuff. Also, I stand corrected about the National DIN standard thread pitch on the 10mm bolts, it is 1.5, it's the 12mm bolts that the National DIN standard is 1.75 thread pitch.

You can look it up in the parts book here
http://oacdp.com/5867part.html

Section 6 is Brakes

I think it might be in section 5 though -rear end

I took a quick look and I think it's the M8x88 bolt. Normal M8 pitch, which should be 1.25

What size screws do you need to hold the light onto the license plate housing? This is the part if I'm not describing it well. Also, what size stud goes into the back of it and through the deck lid? I seem to have lost one.

Thanks!

Quote:
Please advise: What is the drill bit size needed to change my 12mm break drum lug bolt threads to 14 mm threads? Note I do not want to install press in studs (which is a bigger drill bit, I want to install either lug bolts or screw in studs). What is the pitch of the tap? Is the tap a 14 mm? I appreciate your advice.

Old post and answer already given, and many will already know, but maybe this is usefull for somebody else:

rule of thumb for the drill to use for metrical (fine pitch) threads:
drill diameter = thread diameter - thread pitch

for example:
M8: 8mm thread - 1.25mm pitch = 6.75mm -> rounded to the next bigger size = 6.8mm drill
M3.5: 3.5mm thread - 0.6mm pitch = 2.9mm drill

The same "formula" does also work for metric fine pitch threads:
M10 X 1: 10mm thread - 1.0mm pitch = 9.0mm drill
