They're a pretty simple part. Shouldn't be too hard to make some.

Thing Shop sells them for $10 a piece used. Pricey.
I suppose you could make a couple cheaper if you have the skills, stock, and equipment already.

Flat bar with holes:
Length: 58mm
Width: 12mm
Thick: 3mm

First hole from end: 8mm
Second hole: 23mm (spacing : 15mm)
Thread: M5 x .8

Pivot part:
Overall length: 37mm
Width at weld :9mm
Thickness at weld: 3mm
Diameter of round part: 6mm
Offset of dogleg : 5mm (to center of round part)

The round part originally pivoted in a plastic bushing that was stuck into the car. I have only seen a fragment of this bushing, so it is my guess that it may have a flange on it. Try to find this bushing first, you may have to alter the dimensions of the round part to suit.

That looks like a panel hinge and not the glove box door hinge - if there's an actaul difference. They look different to me.

Bruce, thanks for the measurements. I will make them. I have to modify my car anyway as I do not see where it was to mount up to. So how I will have a glove box door on my car. Thanks

Let's see some pics of the hinges when you're done. Also the installation.

Not sure how to upload pictures from my phone to this page. But if you look over in the gallery you see the door in place. I went a different route with hinges. I went to hardware store and bought basic hindges. Cut them to fit and works like a dream. I have purchased a late super beetle latch and I am waiting for it to come in so I can finish. I know it is not orginal but it works for me. Working glove box door is what I was after.

I have a huge supply of those "panel hinges" available. They are different from the glove box door hinge. I also have the pin bushings that go into the body and allow the hinges to be secure, solid and rattle free.

Dash panel hinge**********Glove box door hinge

Thing Glove box door hinge dimensions vs. Thing Dash panel hinge dimensions

Thing Glove box door hinge dimensions

Bar: (same size part for both hinges) 3 x 12 x 58 mm bar stock with two holes tapped (use same screw as used on dash panel hinge for both parts. Tapped holes are 9 mm and 24 mm from top of bar

Pin: 6 mm round stock x 38 mm long with end flattened after 12 mm

Pin is welded to bar at exact bottom the bar

Thing Dash panel hinge dimensions

Bar: (same size part for both hinges) 3 x 12 x 58 mm bar stock with two holes tapped (use same screw as used on dash panel hinge for both parts. Tapped holes are 9 mm and 24 mm from top of bar

Pin: 6 mm round stock x 26 mm long with end flattened after 12 mm

Pin is welded to bar 9 mm from the bottom of the bar

It would be fairly simple to modify a dash panel hinge to turn it into a glove box door hinge.

The bigger issue is that my car has no provisions for the door to mount to. On the left side it would be fairly easy just to drill a hole. But on the right there nothing to drill to make the pivot point.

Unless someone has modified your body, you can hold the door up to the body and align it carefully and you will find the location where the two (one on each side) 6 mm holes need to be so that the door opens and closes properly. Also remember that a glove box door demands that the interior light be relocated.

Not sure where my glove door came from. Definitely NOT the VW door. Does use a VW lockable doorlatch though. Very Heavy sheet metal with "lips" on three sides. Attaches to the bottom shelf of the glovebox with a piano hinge. Looks like the hinge is attached to the shelf with the bolts from the dash pad

I have a question about the bamboo tray. Does it interfer with the 74s defrost duct? Does the duct go behind or or thru the tray? Also,....would it interfer with a below dash radio install?
