So you have a mild heart attack a few weeks before your 59th birthday. What do you do?

Buy a Vanagon for rehab . . . just what the doctor ordered (he did say to relax).

Here is the 87 Weekender automatic as the wrecker dropped it off in my driveway. Note the matching low-pressure front tires. And the tires are way too small. So my son found me 5 wheels and tires. He's also the one who found me the van while I was home recuperating.

New wheels and tires and throw away the rusty rear bumper, looking better.

165,000 miles on odometer, but a receipt for a VW of Canada rebuild 30k miles ago. Evidence of new coolant lines and the radiator looks almost new.

An order from Go Westy for alloy bolts and nuts, oil filter for oil change and time to crank it and hear it run. Did someone here mention fuel lines? 3 good cranks and a burst fuel line.

I'm now waiting for a Bus Depot order with fuel lines, clamps and other stuff. All the lines from the tank to the injectors will be replaced. Then a compression check to judge the health of the engine---and then we start it up!

Stay tuned . . .

This is the camper that is taking my wife and I across the country in 3 to 5 yrs when I retire.

Nicely done! Photos and all. Looks like a good one to start gettin to.

Weekenders are the best, but then, I'm biased.
