Has there been a discussion on these new LED taillights? they look like they're the right size for an oval.

They look good if they fit. The only issue I can see is that they don't appear to have any reflective properties. So if your car is on the side of the road, without power, no body will see you. Stock tail lights reflect light even when they are off.

yeah that is true I wonder if they have the capability to flash when using the turn signal? and will L.E.D's work using 6 volts?

I just called them Confused well they told me they do not fit in the orig VW housings, or mount the same way...they only work on 12 volt vehicles... well one step closer but 2 steps back huh...dang that sucks. basically they would be made for a custom car.

They sure would look nice hiding behind the grill under the rear window. Make a nice third & forth brake light!

You might want to check out this thread...

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=240612&highlight=led+snowflakes

I made my own 6v's and am very happy. There's a vid of them on page 3 of that thread.

But they're so close. Maybe just the guts could be used with the old lense and chrome ring.

I see the two screws in the center of the tabs, I guess they're holding the light behind the tabs you fabed, but what's holding the tabs to the inside of the housing ?

And was there any modification of the physical light assembly itself to make it fit?

The lense itself.

Looks like they could use some kind of sealant on the back to keep moisture from shorting out the circuit board. Definately a sharp looking mod. It'd be possible to run them on 6V if you changed out the resistors.

so without seeing how this guy put this together, you're telling me that the lense holds the tabs and not the tabs hold the lense? why dont we just wait for him to answer. the suspense is killing me, maybe not all that much, but I really wana know.
