Sunroof is aftermarket. You can jump it from another car but place the neg on something solid and metal on your bug.

Nice car. I have a '71 Super and have come to really like the particulars of the unique '71 and '71 Supers. Best of both worlds.

You can boost it from any car as it is 12 Volts but you can also push it to start it. Unless it's an auto stick!.

Turn on key, push car, pop clutch with it in 2nd gear and it should start.

1600cc dual port motor. you can tell by the intake manifold. it's a three piece manifold. You can see the red rubber intake boots on your motor.

Piece of advice. move that fuel filter. Nothing like a fuel filter installed without clamps right above your distributor.

Thanks Mustard madman!
I found a thread on the BEETLES & FIRE post... and saw that fuel filter.

I picked up a new battery this evening and she fired right up!

all lights work, except brake lights and not sure if this has backup lights... it looks like it does. Wipers work, dash light works.... wife is happy that it runs after the shipping from Cali.

Thanks everyone for the info you provided!
I believe we have caught the bug, wife asked if there were any shows coming up near us in NC. Wink

Received the Sunroof a couple days ago, and today I cut the template out and went to work... so far so good.

Nice super beetle, it's mostly original and in good shape. I agree with Jim, 71 is my favorite year super beetle, too. It has tombstone taillights, flat windshield and the classic steering wheel.

I was born in 1971. I'm in about the same shape too. If i do some bodywork and get some paint (hair), i too hope to be restored someday.

Nice car and I'm glad your spouse has got the "bug".
