https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/474174.jpg I am going to change to an oil pump that allows me to screw my oil filter right in, what is this for?

the oil pump in that picture has a full flow cover on it the fitting to the left of the crank pulley is where the oil returns to the engine after being filtered.
If thats the motor you are working on might be better to just find a filter mount and some oil lines. Most think it'd be a step down to swap out
a true full flow for a filter/pump combo.

I gues you're right, it would be a down grade. I had it set up that way on my rail, rather the PO had it set it up that way. I wanted that "cool" look with the filter visible. I was actualy going to use a Fram , but have since read/found other options. Thanks. Will the Empi bumper filter bracket work with this type of set up?
