I have to replace the one in my '71 super beetle...

the one now had a raised lip and I would like the new one to be flush with the roof.

any suggestions

I measured and the width is 25.5" x 16.5"

thanks for the help.

J.C. Whitney has one for $170. Part number DBB946992F in catalog 106J-09, page 40 It measures, per the add, 18x28.

pity there's a 99% chance it won't fit right. The Beetle has a roof that's a complex curvature, curving both ways at once, and most aftermarket sunroofs aren't like that. I've got a pop-up sunroof in mine, and it flattens that section of the roof when it's installed. I'll be picking up a section of roof from my local yard soon and welding it in instead.

The sunroof listed is double curbed to fit the beetle, supposedly. You never know any more, it might be an empi brand....

The best alternative would be to get a roof section with a factory roof (rag, metal, or solid) and graft it in.

There is a guy in Spring Hill, FL that grafted a ragtop from a '61 (if I remember correctly) into his 66 daily driver. The people that did the work made it look factory. So, it can be done.

i had a glass pop up sunroof from CR Laurence in my 72 when i bought it. the company no longer makes that item but has a newer model which is made to fit. pricey but fits well. i agree though with grafting an original sunroof section would be the best alternative if you ca find one. good luck.

Ok....

so your saying that I may need to find a bug that has a sunroof already installed and cut the roof around the sunroof, and then cut the same size out of my '71 and then weld it in?

oh man I hope I am the 1% of fitting

Thanks again for the heads up on this, I received it today.

Found a Free Shipping code so that saved me $23!

Hopefully my next post will be a pic of it installed.

I have an aftermarket flip-up on my '72 and I like it and also have no trouble with leaks Very Happy Also can pop out entirely for more wide-open spaces but on highway causes loud air popping Shocked due to pressure increase, pop outs on rear windows stops that though! Cool Enjoy your car, thats what it all about! Smile
