|
|
Since a while (september 2002 ) I've this '66 panel that every now and then I work on.
With a couple of home renovations, in between projects and other stuff it's taking up quite some time.
For all the work in the past I wanna direct you to www.volksfahrer.nl.
Here are a few things I did in the past:
Cargodoor rocker:
A-pillar:
Right corner with a lot of surrounding metal:
Time has changed and now i really feel like working on my bus!!
This is what I did recently:
Scraping undercoating with some friends.... nice job!
BBQ after all that work!
Welding in the left corner
The long rocker was cut out 3 years ago:
Inner rocker and splash area behind the wheel fixed
Rocker and fabbed piece of lower dogleg in again!!
I really want to get this project going again so hopefully more soon!!

The cargofloor is all patched up!
Looking back I think it might have been less work to replace it completly.....
When I started working on the floor there weren't any funky green panels on the market so I decided to go this route...
But who gives! It's done and solid again now!
Good penetration....

Fixed the lower frontpart of the dogleg.
Looked ok from up far but the metal was badly rusted from both sides.
Tryed to repair it first but it turned out easier to replace it.
I also replaced the bottom of the hollow space behind the dogleg-skin.
Pics:
Original piece, kept on burning through as it was to thin

The cut
And it's in!

Another thing to scrape from the to-do-list!
The hacked in sidewindow is weldedshut.
And because I thought it was a little to risky to weld myself I had it
done by a pro/friend of mine

At this point I do not have a bus in any shape or form amongst my VWs thus far, but I love how they look slammed. I am very impressed with your work however long it took to get to this point. The task you have at hand looks daunting, but the in-process pictures are excellent. I guess if you want it bad enough IT CAN AND WILL BE accomplished. Just keep them pictures coming so I can get up the nerve to find one I can call my own.
Cheers!! _________________ the parts that you buy from me today, will fund my projects tomorrow... |

Time to raise the steeringbox!
Measure (5 times):
And cut:
I'm gonna do a 1,6" raise since I don't want to cut in my floor.
It doesn't sound like much bit it will do the job.
Some motivational pics in the garage:

Finished raising the box today!
Welded on some thick filler-strips:
Welded the beam back in it's new spot:
And there you have it!
How it was:
And how it sits now

Another big step!
After scraping of the old undercoating (what a job!)
I've media-blasted the bottom and today I've pulled the bus out of
the garage to clean of all the dust and mess from blasting.
Clean wheelwells with homemade rolling-fram:
Clean back here too!
The bus sunbathing next to our house
Next up is painting the cargo area and the bottom and fix a
few things like doorhinges and then it's ready to go to the painter! _________________ www.volksfahrer.nl

Update:
I wanted it out and I got it out!
Like al splitbusses the lever was stuck like hell!
So I cut the pin which (offcourse) will be simply replaced!
I seam-sealed all the welding on bottom and covered it all with RX5
(anti-rust).
It's clear so no exiting pics of that
When it's dry I'll paint it all with RX10 in a nice shade of grey (paintsystem... sort like POR15 i guess)
The cargo-area will be almost completly covered by paneling but
I still decided to give it all a fresh coat of paint.
This is just the first layer after which I put seamsealer on all the welds.
When the sealer is dry I'll put on another coat.
I also sorted out and torn apart a lot of small parts like backingplates, trailingarms
and pedals so I can take it to the blaster! _________________ www.volksfahrer.nl

Got the compleet cargo-area painted 2x in a metalpaint
that loks just like the OG primer:
Also put the first coat of paint on the bottom.
After scraping undercoating, sandblasting and rustrepair... you probably can understand I'm a happy man to see this!
I also had a front door, the bumpers, the beam and a bunch of small parts blasted.
I'm gonna paint all the suspensionparts in a nice deep black! (RAL 9005)
Beam in primer:
I also cleaned up the original seats.
Not bad for 43 years old:
