I have to say, in all my years of selling on eBay I've only had a buyer bail once or twice, and in both cases the 2nd highest bidder was interested. All in all it's been incredibly successful for me in the <gasp> 20 years I've been using it. |
Its when a seller has someone else they know bid it up to make real perspective buyers pay more. If you want to sell it then you will sell it. If you dick around with legit bidders then you run the risk of it not selling. |
I've listed a few items on Ebay to get a feel for how many views the items got and how well they would sell. It's been a total failure. Low view counts and no sells.

Yeah, true.
Looks like that $1K tent sold with a second bidder chiming in. Might be time to short list my set of tents for herd culling _________________ '75 Campmobile (tin-top to SpaceRoof)

Why do you think I plaster FB when I list? So if you dont follow the FB crowd. I plaster my listings there. You get a tremendous view count and a broader field of buyers. _________________

eBay is pretty much over in my book. I sold a shit ton of stuff there in the late 1990s- 00s but quit selling in 2010 due to all the bullshit. There are always occasional exceptions, but eBay is pretty much a buyer's market any more. Search sucks, too. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Re: view counts there are tactics to employ. You want to get your listings into the auto-emails that people receive for saved searches as often as possible (so making small changes each day helps). Also, you need to have a buyer who actually wants to buy what you have - niche parts, used electronics, big items that are expensive to ship are all losers. You have to make understanding shipping costs as easy as possible - I stay away from any auction where the shipping cost is calculated by my location, because that formula always overcharges. To be a good seller you have to create your listing with a buyer’s mindset. These have all helped me over the years - I’m not trying to make a living off of it, just generating extra cash to reinvest in hobbies. _________________ '75 Campmobile (tin-top to SpaceRoof)

I just don't like the Fakebook KGB possibilities. Plus the layout and flow of conversation just seems random and chaotic to me.

So the owner uses this only at Burning Man?
Maybe this one should be donated as kindling. _________________ -Kent-

I actually messages that tent seller and asked about the tent, and what he thought about the bids. Perhaps I'll message him back to see if anyone paid up. That said, now there's another tent on eBay right now at $1,000 with a bid. Perhaps we're all about to get rich with these things |
That guy must be a great salesperson. I couldn't even get $450 for my tent when I had it on here and craigs. A guy must've sent me twenty emails wanting it for $200. Then my corner pole broke. Luckily I spotted the same corner poles that someone sells on here, but for around $7 a piece from the awning guy at the local swap meet. |

I think this seller has one too many digits in his asking price...

$4500 for rust, bondo, massive dents and only 2 working cylinders?

Reads like a real estate ad, The van "presents" well? Guess "it looks good' doesn't cut it. Sounds real pretentious and contrived, I am guessing there are one or two writers who come up with this language. The Auto auction on Tuesdays (Speeds) is a helluva lot of fun, they sell a bunch with live auctioneer, there is a food cart selling Mex chow, and a cool collection of Portland denizens bidding. About $ 2500 price in actual silver coinage, ( 6 bucks/90% silver half dollar) 5000 half dollars. No more being made, simple supply and demand. _________________ patience and putty |

Not really a whine, it's the nicest one I've ever seen. Who knows what someone will pay for it. You could probably make a typical driver look like this for $20K, so maybe it's only worth $25K. But originality is special.
