"Middle bench seat not original to this bus $400"
I have a middle bench seat that's got maybe two little hole in the OG black vinyl.
Either the above ad is total crack pipe pricing, or I need to get my spare out of the storage unit because I could use a new pair of shoes. |

But dude!!! It's got a customized interior, and a nice one at that. But for 34K, the barn is included, right? |

It's bot for me.
That's a $3,400 bus, not $34,000. _________________ Been on the samba so long I remember petting that dog to see VWs, WYHI, and green bug girl.

Loved this one...
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2217207
It looks like a beautifully maintained bus.
But there's something sketchy in the description...
"Inside is 100% original
Touchscreen Navigation
DVD"
That was waaaaay ahead of its time for 1972. _________________ -Kent-

Looks like a fairly nice bus that the owner wasn't afraid of spending money at a shop to rebuild, yes alot of that interior should be described as "original style" since it's clearly not OG, maybe the shop owner convinced them it was the real deal. The price is high, but that's what it costs to pay a shop to do all that, will they ever recover the investment they hope to?, who knows?, but it seems more worthy of a high price than some of the lipstick on a pig "restorations" you see for similar prices. At least it's somewhat tasteful instead of the wild customs with lurid colors and upholstery you sometimes see people with more money than brains do.
Hard to hate on that, it's pricey, but at least you are actually getting something for the money, somewhere there's a buyer with a wad of cash who wants a turn key bus NOW and likes all that new stuff listed, not all VW owners are cheapskates, it could happen. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

The automatic bus transaxles are splendid at reducing 009 flat spots brought on when paired with single carb icing. Just floor it, and the torque converter takes care of the rest!

I know this is 2 months old, but have you driven an automatic that was spot on? Back in about 1985 I had a 90k mile 1973 with 1.7 CD code engine (62hp) and automatic. The dual vac chamber was bad. I tried all manner of different single and no vac distribs and it was just undriveable. Pre internet days. I ended up paying the dealer price, $160 for the correct part. But, wow, after that it was amazing. With 90k mile shocks, one could near lift the front wheels after a couple bounces. the off idle kick from the vac retard going away made it a really fun thing. My brother had a 68 bus with a hot rod type 1 1835. After driving the stock 1973, he decided he was wasting his time with the 1835. Took the motor out put it in a dune buggy.
With the dual carbs and all the hoses (I took the smog pump off), it was very difficult to get set correctly, but it did run nicely when it was set right.
BTW, as a 1973, it had the old 003 tranny. Might have been geared lower. Not much top end- 68-70 I think.

I know this is late:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1977-Volkswagen-Bus-Vanag...7675.l2557
Sale over about 2 weeks ago. I mention this, because my good, local friends bought it.
The bus was in Santa Cruz, CA, and we are in Iowa. Delivery guy dropped it off in Des Moines, about 100 miles away, so I went with them to ferry it up here to NE Iowa.
Interesting car and advertising.
As you can see from the ad, it sold for $12,500. A LOT of money to me.
1977 Country homes conversion yellow and white. NEARLY driveable. But it has ZERO rust; all original paint except the nose painted white, Bridgestone 185R-14 tires (Probably a little old), Passed California emissions (intact CAT and EGR and complete exhaust). That fact alone probably put $4000 on the bidding. Pretty nice redone interior, in newer striped mouse fur.
The bad:
Seller of 25 years said it "purred like a kitten". Maybe a bigger cat on meth! I doubt anyone adjusted the valves the last decade.
Vent piping off the pipe to the charcoal cannister detached. (clearly shown in the pictures, FWIW.) So at least a gallon of gasoline went right on the running motor.
All fuel hoses and nearly all the under hood rubber is pretty old. It started VERY poorly when cold and I suspect the cold start inject is plugged. Must be crud in the tank because the fuel gauge doesn't work and but for the valves making noise, one could hear the fuel pump about a block away.
The rear bumper is pretty hammered, the window rubber is as bad as I have ever seen (but not a bit of window opening rust).
but hey, ZERO RUST, ORIGINAL PAINT. One could do worse.
Al

Hey Alan...
That looks like a great score, and $12k for a rust free bus sounds like a bargain. The rest of the stuff should be easy enough to fix. eBay can be a crap shoot, but it looks like he did alright. _________________ -Kent-
