I was low by $25, inflation is hitting harder than expected in some places it seems. Shocked

So, my choice is either a top of the line 2023 Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid Sport Turismo or this Bus. Tough decision! Laughing

sort of a parts whine. My best machine shop for miles is going out of business and closing up after 65 years and two generations. Why? Because they can't find someone who has the commitment to be a machinist the right way.

My shop is still in business, but the machinist I worked with for 20 years. died from Covid some time back. Sad thing is the last time I spoke with him we were talking about our plans for the next 10 years, Social Security and Medicare. There is a trust like in a relationship that is built and hard to replace. Sorry to hear.

Similar story for me. An excellent machine shop that was local and reliable closed last year due to family illness and left us wanting. Automotive machine shops who are willing and able to work on aircooled VW are dwindling in number. Shop re-opened eventually but no longer do aircooled VW work. Shops who specify, assemble, install and tune engines don't often do their own machine work, they rely on specialist machine shops. When these shops close it puts engine building work in jeopardy.

Same deal locally, all the dedicated commercial shops closed 10-15 years ago, there's still a couple mass rebuilder shops that'll do side work, but I've had mixed results with some of their work, if they don't lose your parts. There's a couple guys who do specialty stuff in their garage, but most of them gave it up when Covid came along, understandable since many were pushing 80 and didn't want to risk getting sick.

One stop shopping is a thing of the past for me, an average build now requires 2-300 miles of driving, one guy does cranks, another bores, somewhere else for heads, then off to the balancing and rod sizing guy in another town, I usually have 3-4 days of just driving parts around in every job.

I dig patina on Neptune Blue Early Bays, but that's a $2500 bus.

A great seller, excellent description and quality part. And apologies to Jon in advance, but wowee, talk about opportunistic pricing. All sorts of reasons why it's fine to sell a good quality rare part for 4x what it should sell for, but that's why this is called the whines...

So I stumbled across this yesterday and am trying to wrap my head around how it works. Click the link and you'll see bays, splits and Vanagons for sale. But at super cheap prices - to me at least.

What's the deal? It doesn't look like an auction site? And each ad in some cases go to other pages with a different url listing - but same low prices?

How is this working? To get a nice split window, fully restored bus for less than 10k?

Huh. I brokered the sale of one of those buses two years ago, for about 30k. Every site they link to is a scam.

Trovit is one of those sites that steals ads from other sites (Samba included)

As far as I can tell the only purpose of the site is to gather names/email data for resale.

And show ads to make money off visitors

I am aware that Kieft en Klok have a reputable name, but can someone speak to what is actually going on in the Netherlands that this beat up Bus in desperate need of a full restoration might command a €29500 ($32,328.41) price?

I recently saw my Bus for sale on this site! Imagine my surprise! It should be illegal what they're doing.
