I was in Germany with my oval this summer (went to Bad Camberg), 3000 km in one week (nearly 2000 miles), my car was at home running Autobahn...
Nice trip, and no problems!

UPDATE:
Thanks Brothas for the support, its been a minute since Ive posted some pics... The engine is in Colorado still, but making its way to Arizona soon.. Once it gets there it will be headed to Cali.. Here's some pics I took when I was home.. This is Ricardos interior installed on the seats:
Heres my luggage area.. and my future speaker luggage box.. I just applied the padding.. Im waiting on the Headliner & B Pillar install for the carpet kit..
I had to modify my Mirror Visor for the SWF Lighted Mirror; I had to cut the ball off of the OG Visor Mirror, and tack weld in the larger SWF Mirror Ball to secure it:
Heres the removal of the OG Beam.. Waiting for the narrowed to be installed; Ill have to do that when I get back in March:

Thanks brotha.. Im here in Kuwait.. I thought I was going back, but we moved some personnel around and were able to cover Afghanistan.. So.. Im here for now.. I just bought some 1954 Engine Tins Im having sent here.. Just to keep me busy.. The shroud needs some work.. but its cool.. There industrial tins.. but I like data plate and stamping that has "1954 on them.. So.. After repairs, Ill have them powder coated and put them to use on my Feb Engine.. Heres some pics:

Update: Okay brothas.. Its been a while since Ive had anything to say about the 54.. Ive kinda just been playing Ninja and looking at everybody elses good news.. Today the 12th wraps up one year in Kuwait.. I have about a 3 week extension for my replacement.. Then I fly home in April.. Then gonna take some time and head out to Italy with Momma.. As for the 54.. Heres what I got thus far..
The Cheese:
1954 Tins: They made it here in Kuwait.. they came from France, so it took about a month or so to get here.. but I have them and there OG for the engine.. I was gonna work on that dented part on the shroud, but work got the best of the time here.. so Im just packing them up and shipping them home next week.
4" Narrowed Beam: 407 SpeedShack should be dropping it off soon.. It will be there in the garage when I get home.. He said it came out good to go.. Wide 5 Disc Brakes, Tie Rods, Powder Coated, New Bushings etc.. Remember I sacrificed a 1955 Beam I bought for $45..
Rims & Tires: I have 5 Chromed 5 Spokes still wrapped up.. Im gonna run 145X65X15 in the Front & 205X65X15 in the Rear.. My spare will be a 145 also.. After reading all the threads on suspension, disc brakes, narrowed beams etc.. this seams like one of the safe set ups.. More meat on the pavement..
Headliner/Panels: Got ahold of Octavio. Got a quote for some Original German Cloth material.. He's gonna work with my ragtop and the headliner only.. Thats all I needed completed really.. The Door panels I can figure out.. Just have to finish the damn vent wings and slide in the rest of the glass.. He said the turn around time will be 3 days.. So Im a little pumped about that one..
Carpet Kit: Im gonna order that the week before I get home, and just run down to WW and pick it up.. That will have to wait until the headliners installed too..
Engine: I have the 1959 Engine ready to go in.. I just have to purchase the generator & regulator and I think that should cover everything.. The February 1954 Engine I have to pick up in Arizona.. but that will be a day trip..
Misc: I have to pick up and install the windshield, the rear window will have to wait until the headliner is completed..(Obviously).. I also have to make arrangement on the 1954 hood I purchased, and get that sent to the shop so they can spray it.. That should complete the OG sheet metal.
Man Im ready to get this thing fired up.. Hopefully it will be ready to roll by summer.. should be.. I hope.. Okay fellas.. When I get home, Ill post some pictures.. _________________ Valentine, Ray J Sr.

Sweet thread! You cant go wrong with someone like VWKidds experience. I say go OG CalStyle with a stock length beam and alloys instead. |

First update: When I saw "Delilah" in person for the first time she took my breath away......the color was spot on for L227 Strato Silver and even my friend I took with me who I consider an expert having worked for one of the well known VW restoration shops for many years, commented that it was the correct hue for Strato Silver & commented he has seen many Strato Silver cars look too bluish. The car was put together well at this stage & really looked great in sunlight. Now Ray was telling me that he has been looking for a correct 53-54 Hood since he first started this project & fitted a later 4 tab hood meanwhile until he could locate the correct hood................So I told him "Delilah" was destined for me because I just happened to have a 53-54, 5 bolt, triangle 4 Tab hood stashed that needed a little work. Well we both agreed that F & J in Downey would repair & paint "Delilah's" new correct hood, since they were the ones that gave it it's Strato Silver luster paint job already....a perfect match!!
So this morning I meet Ray at F & J and meet the body shop crew and give them "Delilah's" new Bonnet to work there magic on it!!!! _________________ 1955 151 Deluxe L219 Congo Green (Project)
