Find those numbers Arrow and keep the whole lower half funky green Cool

interesting! the question is, would that make for a kosher bus Question

That takes us straight back to this hot topic ... http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=317072 Wink

If you can find the original chassis number and the bus is around 50% or a bit less Confused then its all good in my book.
There is a difference between not having alot of metal to start with but saving as much of it as possible, and making a totally new bus.

the only potential pitfall is if another collector has the lower half and carries out the same detective work.
then two buses turn up a show with the same chassis number and the same % original metal Shocked Confused Wink

So Wolf, What is your opinion on this piece, is it possibly enough to make a bus from? Smile What do you and your friend think? Pictures look good!

Well in my opinion, yes of corse.....it is a rare car so I would try to restore it from what he have, and I think he will do that to acctually, he have not made up his mind yet and he is in no hurry to make the final decision either.....if he sell it, well then he dont have any options what to do with it......so we will se, as he says now, he will keep it.

The guy is very talent when it comes to restore cars, and I´m sure he is the right guy to do this kind of work Very Happy

We will try to serch up the right identity for this acctually bus, it will be a really hard job, but with little luck it can be done I think.....if we will find it, well then it is no question if it should be restord or not.

And then is the question....is it right or wrong ?? Well that is up to others to discuss Cool

Cheers / Wolf

For me there are several ‘final value’ Categories here to consider
In descending order of value:

1) Original BD, never disassembled
2) Restored BD, always solid
3) Restored BD, minor rust repair
4) Restored BD, major rust repair
5) Restored BD, from just a lower half of a bus (VIN known)
6) Restored BD, from just a top half of a bus (VIN unknown or ‘believed’ tracked)
7) Restored BD, Columbian
Eight) A Gerson ‘new build’ BD

>As a buyer, you should be aware of which category your potential BD purchase falls into!
>For me there is a substantial price difference between Categories 1 and 2, and Categories 3 and 4.
>Categories 6 or 7 could swap!

Oh, and personally I'd like to see this 'BoatBus2' restored!

How deep is the lake? Maybe they cut the roof of at the boat ramp and let the rest roll down into the lake. Chances are I'd like to think the rest of it is at the base of the ramps some where. Good luck! Very Happy You could probably drag a claw style anchor and when it grabs metal the rope would get real tight when it grabs a hold of the $$$$$ pressed deluxe bumper! Shocked

they appear to need a lot of work - to the point where they may not ever be properly right again - and they are usually missing most of their original parts

i'm not saying they can never be worth good money (Category 4 to Category 8 may not be that big a price variation)
just that personally I would choose to avoid them, even when put back on the road or restored

it'd be ace to see one that's been done really well

Why are all those Columbian Barndoors so fucked up one way or another? Is there even a stock bodied barndoor left down there?

Skim- From the looks of things there isn't a Barndoor down there that isn't bent up front like the Concorde Airplane or bent in the side like a dog trying to bite a flea on his ass

this made me smile

Why take two separate, "decent" projects and merge them into one - when they "easily" can be restored on their own and the world will live on with both, instea of just one BD DeLuxe based on these.

Go for it Woffe & Partner! Put it on the road - in Sweden!
