transmission interchagablity question

transmission options for a '77

so here's the deal i have '77 with no transmission in it, i have a spare 3 rib just laying around and have found a 5 rib for a $100 and am having a really hard time finding a 6 rib at a cheap price.......


1.what can i do?
2.can i put a taller 4th gear in the 3 rib and be happy?
3.will a 5 rib just plug straight in? is there even such a thing as a 5 rib?
4.how much is a fair price for a used 6 rib? how much can i expect to spend on a fairly good used unit pulled from a not so working bus?

5. what's stock for the year '77 engine and tranny combo?

6. and yes i know anything can be done for the right amount of cash...if i where rich i'd just buy one that was completely restored from the getgo....
