Thanks! I was kind of going for a panzer "ambush" scheme, came out decent enough. It had unsanded primer on it when I got it, I figured the perfect texture and starting point for camo.
Side rails and engine cage are in the mail. This week/weekend I'm going to start drawing up plans for a roof rack. Things are moving right along. |

OK so I'm finally getting around to posting photos of BajaBarann - "Annie".
Photos were taken about 45 years ago; now going through a complete rebuild with tube frame & Subaru Brat 4wd drivetrain.

I don't do build threads 'cause it takes me so long to complete anything, with all my projects. I build web pages for them, though, but I haven't had time to do so for Annie. I'll try to do that soon & will post a link then. _________________ ~ Paul

So are you still shopping for another Bug????
Oh, and just keep in mind "when my twin daughters turn 16." is exactly why there are double barrel shotguns.

Not for me. I have way too many projects lined up for myself as it is. Just ask my wife. Or on 2nd thought, better for me if you don't bring the subject up.
I just figure twin girls with 1 car is trouble............. _________________ Richard

I'm working on the webpage for Annie. Meanwhile, here's a pic of my street Baja.
Shortened 14 1/2", electric doors & trunk, frenched taillights, parklights, & fog lights, electric windows, custom fiberglass. Yes there's an oil cooler in the roof scoop.

Just got this
I was kind of wondering about the street legality of this thing.
I’m oxnard California, how will the cops react to the fenders or lack of and the stinger without a spark arrestor or no muffler? Or studded tires on asphalt?
This axel in the front was stretched 4 inches I think so the fender covers none of the tread and the backs are about a quarter under the fenders.
It’s a 1500, is that big enough?

Tires with steel ice studs are a no-no on pavement anywhere in California.
An open exhaust stinger pointing up is illegal in California on the road or on Forest Service, or BLM land or National Monuments, California State Parks, etc. In other words, anywhere on Public land in Cali or most any other state. A spark arrestor is the minimum. But for California street registration you need a muffler, like a quiet pack typical on VW headers, or my favorite, a Turbo muffler (NOT a "Super Turbo") You can replace the bolt-on stinger with a turn down muffler mount that bolts right on and that muffler will clamp onto.
The tire/fender issue should not be a problem. Technically, the tires should be covered above and behind down at least to a certain level. There are wider versions of the fenders on the left rear like on my Baja.

Shit thanks man, I guess I’ll start looking for some sort of muffler.
Damn these fenders looked just like that before I flared them out, well not so much flared them as cut them. I guess I’ll try to get my hands on a couple more.
Now to re-wire this bad boy and tune it up, also just found out my buddy’s dad has a 2165 dual port in an old sand rail he’s willing to give me.
Another thing he says is a must is turning brakes, which it looks like was once hooked up in this one what do you think about that?

Note that my fenders are flat topped from the back and a few inches wider. Very similar shape overall, they cover most tires up to about 31 x 10.50s on some 8" rims. The ones you had will only cover about 215-75 on 6" rims.
Steering brakes are a "must" only in deep sand, like Pismo, Glamis and Dumont. Otherwise, they're a great way to break a trans. I suppose serious deep mud might be a good place too. As long as you don't use them for general purpose offroad. _________________ Richard
