I searched and couldnt find another...And almost every other color has its own thread. This one will probabaly be a dud though.
post up your SWR commercials....trucks! panels!! kombis!!!
***SWR ONLY - no two tone***
from what Ive gathered, trucks seem to be the most common, with panels second, and kombis a distant last. There seems to be a shortage of them. Maybe some will come out of the woodwork?
if there is another SWR thread point me to it[/b] _________________ drive your split.

I wish I could post up some photos of my 61 Dual Cab in all it's glory, but someone thought it would be nice to spray over the red with a nice white.
I can only see a few spots under the seats and in the engine compartment where the red still shows. Maybe someday I'll have the cash to bring it back. |

you dont need much cash. wipe that frown off, go down and grab 40 bucks worth of chemicals, and start rubbin. (use 80 or 120 grit paper to get most of the white off, when red starts to show, then move on to expensive stuff to get whats left off.)
no way in hell, 40 bucks is gonna send you into bankruptcy.
Then youll start to get excited, and your bus will too. then, youll get creative and find ways to make the cash to work on your bus.
get going, or youll lose interest. _________________ Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.

you should invest in a few cans of oven cleaner to see if the SWR is still in good shape under the white. As long as they didnt prep the surface, you should be able to bring it back without too much trouble.
mighty.. that kombi is absolutely gorgeous, its the one for sale by Colome motors currently right? nice low mile bus, too bad it got repainted. Beautiful either way.
Id like a '59 SWR double cab some day. _________________ drive your split. |

using sandpaper of any grit is almost the wrong info to give him mightymouse...use grey scotch brite pads made by 3m,as sandpaper is gonna do more harm then good. _________________ www.blastserv.com

yes, 3m pads are bomb, but....
well, i should have elaborated more. It depends on the thickness of the paint. ive been using 80 and 120 with great results. because original paint, thats been covered all those years, thats in good shape, is strong. so once you get to it, you stop. and you havent even hurt it, just "found" it. then once you buff/wax/polish all of the above. its insane how good it looks/comes back.
You dont sand untill you have all one color, youll trash the orig paint. you sand lightly and see how many coats youve got. then you know what to do. once the coat just on top of OG starts to get thin, you use your head, and stop. then youve heated, and woken up the paint, and many of the suggested chemicals people use on here, will do the rest of the work, and you end up with siiiik og paint.
If you have 3 or 5 layers, and you try using oven cleaner, youll have to use the hyperbolic time chamber, where one year in the chamber = one earth day. LOL (dragonball reference).
youd have to buy stock in oven cleaner.
hehe. sorry i spoke without explaining. i dont like giving misinfo. dave _________________ Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.

They didnt come with them from the factory. BUT...
when you went to the tire store in the 50,s and 60,s they were a replacement option in the tire books.
So many people opted for a bit more tire.
I learned this a long time ago, my 56k original mile, original owner singlecab had them on it when i got it. Ive pulled many busses from the woods in northern cal that had them still on. And i confirmed it when i was cleaning out an old service station, and we found a ton of old tire sizing books in boxes in the rafters. looked up by application, BAM! 670-15 in tons of makes, as alternative tire for vw transporters.
i was all...
as i looked outside and my single was sitting on coker 670's at the time. (1997ish).
The book also listed 650-15 as an available size. ive never seen 650's but i think coker lists them. _________________ Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.
