That's the most likely explanation I can think of. It doesn't explain the white paint in the hole of the cargo area, but still very possible indeed.

Thanks. Laughing

I kind of thought it was for wiper fluid, but wasn't for sure.

It's an auto tranny; hope you got it cheap, like under $500. Paint it any color you like as it is a blended bus. I always sand, as chemicals make me sick. Sanding and primer surfacer is less work than stripping and sandblasting. Less fatique on the metal.

I paid $800. But you can't find buses around here for any kind of decent price. I'm fine with the price, the sub-frame is good and the back flooring is good. So all I have to replace is the front.

As far as it being auto, I can always switch it to manual. There's a guy down the road that has a few buses rotting so, I'm sure I can snag a tranny from him for a good price.

In the Memphis area. Man Maryville wasn't that fun of a place. First when I got there, I couldn't get a straight answer about a decent hotel, I had to stop 2 places, and then the place I found was a sh*% hole. Then we couldn't find a decent bar to go have a few drinks in.

Do you know any history on the bus?

I don't have any history on the bus, but I know Dexter.... And I know that he's had it for a long time...

You should have stayed at the airport Hilton(bar) or the Hampton Inn on Alcoa Highway...
As far as bars go, you gotta go to the old city in downtown Knoxville. It's usually happinin' there...

That bus needs work. You got an engine for it?

Yeah I got him to throw in a complete 1.8. Very Happy

Yeah it needs some work, but nothing too bad. Front clip, doglegs, front floor pan, and then just a few spots to patch in some metal.

Over the next couple of weeks I should have it tore all the way down, all windows out, rubber gone, etc... Then I'll start getting some patch panels and get the cutting wheel and welder out. Twisted Evil

All wiring will be replaced, cabinets recovered, new paint, engine rebuilt, brakes, and all suspension gone over. I plan this to be a project that takes a year or so, I wasn't looking for a bus that was ready to go really, I love working on cars, so I'm pretty happy with it. Smile

Good deal on the 1.8....

My '70 is in about it's 6th month of it " rebirth " process... It's on stands now and it disassembled the 1600 DP tonight. I'm redoing the brakes with new lines, hard and soft. All new shoes and hardware. I took everything off and scrubbed, rust reformer and paint.

The interior is gutted..

Time....

Time... and Money! Laughing

Seriously though, looking at prices for parts on these buses, is very low compared to what I'm used to. And I've never worked on anything with so much room, it's great!

What all else do you have left on your bus?

Speaking of brake lines, does anyone carry braided stainless lines for our buses? Or if not do you know thread size and length?

Check CIP1 or Bus Depot for the lines. I got mine from CIP1... Stainless lines is overkill on the busses.... The rubber ones are more than enough.
Brake lines are cheap.... CHANGE THE FUEL LINES!!!!!!

I have a lot left on my bus. I'm lowering the bus and making an air front beam. I'm by no means a "purist"... I have all the OG interior, but I'm not gonna use it. Gonna do some custom work inside....

Today, I'm gonna clean the engine case( the PO used red rtv on EVERYTHING )...I don't know how much I'll get done as I'm pretty sick...

Ok so the code on the block I have is CB, this will bolt up to the auto tranny (003) I have, correct?

I searched around but didn't find much on CB code. I found it's a 1700 block orig and was dual carb and made for manual trans.

Did you get an auto flex plate, the correct flex plate bolts, and torque converter bolts with the engine? If not you should be able to get them all from someone on here, or Chris at Busted bus. Sounds like you have great plans for that bus. I can't wait to see your progress. Peace!

I think I got all of it. I haven't dug all the way through the boxes yet. Laughing

Really all I have done right now is windows out, dash out, well basically stripped down to a shell. I plan on getting the new floor pan and front cap in the net week or two. After getting those on and new doglegs A few patches here and there, it should be getting close to being ready for some paint.

It will prolly be after the first of the year for paint though, I have to save up for my New Years trip. Widespread Panic in Denver. Twisted Evil

Would you guys replace the dogleggs first or the floor in the front? Or would it be ok to do both at the same time? I didn't know if it would cause structural issues to have em both cut out?
