I am looking for a skid plate to protect the sump on my T1 1776, which is in a 1970 Beetle. Does anyone know where I can get one? They are available for the newer Beetles but I have not seen one on sale for the classic model.

My 1974 Thing came with some kind of universal skid plate that looks like this:

These are still sold, (Empi and others)

I removed it immediately (in 1983) and threw it in my garage loft where I assume it still is.

Check the Samba classified for Thing skid plates, there are usually several being offered for sale. The entire assembly is 4 pieces plus fasteners. The rear most piece may interfere with some oil pumps and exhaust.
