|
|
I have sanded out my old gel coat and am going to spray a couple of coats of clear over it. I saw this done before and it looks great. I have never sprayed before and thought this would be a good introduction.
I have a couple questions:
1) I saw a quart of clear coat at Auto Zone, is this what I should use or is there a better option?
2) My gel coat is blue and I would like to mix a little blue in with the clear coat, do I need a special paint to mix in or will any auto paint work?
3) How many coats should I do and do you wet sand between with clear?
Thanks for the help! |

Go to an autopaint store not a flaps and get real auto paint...... Tinted clear presents issues if not applied evenly. Stripes of varing color for one. It might be better to BC/CC the body.
Most clear is sprayed on in rapid succesive coats allowing proper flash time between coats WITH NO sanding between coats.
Hope this helps...good luck _________________ 70' Beetle Pan off Resto

If you have no experience in this. I would not do any tinted clears. Its like candy paint. You will get lines and spots if not done correctly. And that can not be fixed.
Why do you want to add color to your clear anyway?
Have you thought about just redoing it in single stage. That way you can rubbing compound out any mistakes?
I did one with single stage and it came out great!

that is exactly what I wanted to do. The orange buggy. My gel coat looks just like the before. I guess I would just like to tint the clear with a little blue to help blend the color a little. |
