Hi guys,
Just took out my bearing housing from the bus. I first noticed the bad bearings about 5k km ago. There was a slight wobble on the wheel so I opened up the drum to find it full of grease.
This happened on our trip to Beijing, we were in Turkmenistan when that happened. We had to go on with these bearings so we repacked the housing and on we went. We cleaned out the drum once more somewhere half way China and repacked it with grease again. On both occasions the bearing seal was pushed out a little, letting the grease into the drum. I don't know if the seal was pushed out by some fault or that the seal just came loose because it wasn't installed properly.
I removed the whole bearing housing from the bus today and made a picture of how the roller bearing looks now. I'll take the bearings out completely tomorrow. Anyway, on to my question;
It seems a bit strange to me that the bearing has worn out to such an extent in 20.000 km. So obviously there was something wrong, does anyone have a clue by looking at these pictures what me might have done wrong when we replaced the bearings?
(The replacement bearing were Febi's from Just Kampers, right side bearings are just fine...)

How did you install the bearing? Hammering it in will make it do that, it needs to be drawn in evenly so the outer race doesn't distort. I use some big washers and a length of all thread. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I put the bearing on the housing and used a piece of pipe, the size of the outer bearing and hammered on that to get it to go in. Maybe that lacked a little bit of finesse
I'll use my press with the next set of bearings _________________ 1978 T2b ASI Riviera Plan I // Camper Special with MegaSquirt Injection & Ignition // 091 with 5.14 R/P and Peloquins LSD

Might have been just a bad bearing. You'll know in another 20,000. How is the shaft looking. _________________ Brett
