hi sled, the photo you posted in the first post is my bus!

i have removed it for the time being as it needs some work but i will check later to see what model it is,

as you say it has ducting going from the heater out to the back passenger area coming out by thebottom of the bulkhead, and also one coming forward to the front cab area

the rear shelf is standard, no wheel well there.

The eberspacher that was fitted in the spare wheel wells in buses are the smaller bn2, same as they used under the hood of a bug or type 3, buses only had bigger bn4 in the engine bay.

Very Happy

ok so it sounds like I need a BN2??

Ive also been looking at some BA6's from later baywindows and vanagons that are a flat pancake heater than fits under the bus. I could make that work too.

i used to run a gas heater in my 55 bus and i pulled it,i have a sensative sniffer and at stoplights i could smell the exhaust in the cabin,i was told the cabin has a "vacum" effect and the exhaust from the tailpipe of the gas heater gets sucked in the knooks n crannies

i would love to have a gas heater in a bus but something tells me theres no way in hell to get a bus completely airtight (oh those front drs)

Id just run a very long exhaust pipe back to the rear of the bus.. I dont smell engine fumes when I come to a stop, so I dont think the gas heater would smell either. who knows though.

anyone run one of those big pancake late model heaters underneath their bus?

I saw a stack of carbon monoxide detectors at Costco yesterday evening. Should have bought one, but I wasn't thinking. It would be great to have in the bus.

If I fitted a heater to my bus it would be the BA6, just fit it inline in the central tube like a bay, job done , no heater in your spare well or engine bay. Very Happy

sled,i had mine mounted sorta like krushers, mine was an earlier heater though,i ran an extra long tailpipe out to the rear by the engine tailipipe,i tried putting it a few other places too but still at a stop light it was definately getting in,when the heater was off i never smelled exhaust fumes and it had a 356 motor installed

hmmm, well I think I will try to source a BA6 because I think it would be a good option. I would like to be able to put a spare tire where it belongs.

the heater cost around $1000 when i got it. you can get it for $700 now. the tank was $200 shipped. there were cheaper options. i considered putting the southwind heater in instead. i already had it and it is complete, but in the end this was a way better option. i feel safe sleeping in it with the kids and animals and so on. LOTS of heat and control too.

Sure you just have to leave a window open or risk dieing from lack of oxygen. Leaving the window open kind of defeats trying to heat up the bus interior. Plus it releases lots of moisture from the fuel so expect a drippy interior.
